Calling All Past Soda Lovers
McDonald's fountain Diet Coke. $1.00 plus tax for a large My kids will eyeroll me so hard when I pull into the drive-thru. The other day one of them said: "Mom, you never visited McDonald's this often when you were overweight."

I've chosen to avoid soda - going from at least 6 cans a day (was always diet though). I loved cigars too and I miss them, but I haven't had one in 20 years. I did love Fanta and recently found that Crush makes a bunch of Crystal Light type mixes with flavors that mirror their Fanta competition. I think they are pretty good. My add to this thread is find something else that you like to drink and enjoy. I'm actually pretty happy now. But I'll admit I still miss my micro brewed beer on the weekends and a great Irish Whiskey on special occasions. Funny, life is about choices that take you in different directions. I hope your choices take you where you want to go. Good luck.

We went to the Coca-Cola museum in Atlanta this past summer. They have this huge tasting room with all kinds of sodas from around the world. I haven't had more than a sip of soda since surgery (my brother made seltzer and I tried a sip) but I decided to try some of the diet sodas -- I loved Diet Coke pre-op. I was in so much pain afterwards. I can't easily burp anymore, so between the burning of the carbonation going down and the gassy feeling of not being able to burp I have pretty much given up on soda.
However, on a side note... I still have my soda maker. Like my big clothes I'm finding it hard to give away even though I don't use it.
I gave up soda (or as we Pittsburgers like to call it, Pop) about a year ago when I was pre-op. I was a huge Coke addict - regular Coke actually. I drank that stuff like it was water. And I always used the same excuse I've heard echoed here - I don't have any other addictions, so let me have this one.
Honestly, a year out and I don't even crave it anymore. The only time I find I want one is when we're out somewhere and there are very few other choices.
I think it was the sweet I wanted more than anything else. So now I drink Gatorade G2 to get my sweet liquid fix.
My surgeon has forbidden caffeine. That's actually what I miss the most. I had to find some naturally decaf teas so I could at least get my cup of tea in the morning.
It's way too easy to get calories through liquids, so that's what I keep in the back of my mind when I make choices about what to drink.

Given that I've been diabetic since age 13 (21 years), I've felt like I've always been appalled by the idea of drinking sweetened liquids. I actually used to tell people that juice was medicinal (because all I drank it for was to treat lows!).

Im a Michigander so I typed pop originally but didn't know if everyone would know what I was talking about I appreciate that - I also love coffee so this is good to know. I will definitely miss my caffeine but I am sure that after a while I wont want it anymore. Thank you!

I loved Diet Coke pre op. I now enjoy seltzer because I limit my artificial sweeteners and need them for coffee
