I was pretty terrified!

I was pretty nervous too. What helped me was remembering that the surgeon wasn't nervous, the anesthesiologist wasn't nervous - I was just the "Wednesday 10:00" to them.

These surgeons perform day in and out and can probably do it in their sleep. And they've probably seen the worst of the worst too. They are well prepared!

All the best with your recovery, see you on the loser's bench!

What an amazing point if I've ever heard one! The surgeon isn't nervous, nor the anesthesiologist..! That may just be the very thing I needed to hear today! Oh thank you for pointing out that small yet IMPORTANT detail! I really appreciate you taking a few seconds to help me rest assured a little better tonight! Wow, feeling much better :( Hugs! :) This is my thought process when it comes to pilots and airplanes too, hehe.

I hope you have a smooth day!

I asked my RN at my last check up and she told me that most people she's met have the same feelings of anxiety before and after the surgery.

So, yes, other people get very anxious before the actual event. It's a major surgery and your body is forever changed. It might not immediately leave after you wake up though, which is the case with me. She told me that with time as I start back on a more normal diet and routine and start seeing results from the surgery (both on the scale and health-wise) most of the anxiety about the surgery fades away.

Oh ok, wow that's so good to know, I really appreciate you sharing that. Because I've read blogs AND my surgeon actually said it's common for many to have "buyers remorse" post surgery. However, it's good to relay those things & so I feel warned about that much more now and it will be so good to remember that in any of the difficult days/weeks to come after surgery. I'm glad to know your nurse relayed the actual anxiety post surgery can be common too for a while thereafter. Makes sense that after the Normal diet is re-established it would fade. Feeling much better already! Hugs :) Jennifer

I am literally typing this response from my hospital bed. I had lap-RNY at 8 am this morning.

Last night, I was terrified. I made sure to tell my husband and my dog how much I love them -- just in case. I knew all the stats, but I was completely scared I'd be the one exception. I took an Ambien and still woke up at 1:30, 2:30 and 4:30. It was NOT a restful night. I was still freaking out in pre-op and trying to convince myself not pull out my IV and make a break for it. LOL

But then the surgery was suddenly over. I woke up in recovery with a very dry mouth (pack Biotene!!) but no nausea and manageable pain. I was in my hospital room by midday, and since then I've been watching TV, texting and even going through work emails.

I've had 28 ounces of water, some chicken broth and some jello. No problems so far -- what a blessing! I've done some walking, and I'm very much looking forward to going home tomorrow.

I'm not naive I know it won't all be rainbows and unicorns in the coming weeks. But so far it's been very doable.

Just think -- this time tomorrow, you'll be writing a post like this one and reassuring someone else.

Best wishes and prayers. You are STRONG, and you can do this!

I'm lying here awake-its 1:20 am, cannot sleep, tummy growling in this liquid joke :) I'm so hungry & all I can think about is Alice Springs chicken from Outback Steakhouse, Fish Tacos from Fish City Grill, Thia-Chicken Pizza from The Rail and Chuy's Tex Mex food!!!!!!!! Okay, really unsure about this.. wondering if I can really do this!!?! I guess we'll see!! :)- I've said my goodbyes to my hubby my kids my mom-I'm sure I'll be the one who doesn't pull through. So glad to know your a mirror image! Glad your feeling so well!!! And 28 oz already..? In one day..? Really..? Wow!! :0
