Gastric Bypass

Im seriously needing this gastric bypass. I got Caresource/Medicaid insurance. It's getting harder to move. Little movement gets me winded. It's bad enough I can feel myself fading from life. I don't want my mother and my kids and girlfriend to cry anymore worrying about me having a heart attack from my serious obesity issues. I want a better life. I want my life back. I will adapt and overcome.

Have you had a consult with a surgeon yet?

I agree. I've been where you are and I'm glad you've made your decision.

Have you taken any steps towards that end? Meeting with the surgeon, pre-op classes about the different surgeries, support groups or therapy? Many of us put our plans into action by availing ourselves of one/some/all of those things.

Have you looked at the three basic types of WLS? Deciding a surgery type is arguably the most important decision you will make. There are forums here on OH for all of the surgeries, but the main ones are the RnY (gastric bypass), the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, and the Duodenal Switch.

Checking them out with an eye toward the differences they will make in your post op life is a good place to start.

Good luck and good for you for taking control of the rest of your life.

Depending on how much weight you have to lose, you may be better off getting duadenal (spelling) switch (or DS for short). I think there is a gal named, Valerie, on this site that had DS. I would look her up and message her. She might have some valuable insights for you

RNY Surgery: 12/31/2013;
