Protein Bars?
I am in search for a protein bar that is ok for us RNY'ers to eat. Sometimes I need to eat something fast, like on the way home from work... before I go to the gym, or meet up with my friends. I want to be sure to get my proteins in and take away my hunger, so I don't eat bad stuff when I am out.
What all do you recommend?
I have tried the ThinkThin 20g protein. but then I read that it has high Sugar alcohol content, and it causes digestive issues. I haven't had that problem so far, but the last thing I need is to have a reaction out of the blue.. just before going to the gym.. or while at the gym. Ya know what I mean?
Thank you for your input, ahead!
I started out eating quest but generally don't eat many as they are not a good fit for me mentally. I can't just eat 1/2 a bar, end up eating the entire thing or more than one.
Real food is preferred over the bars in general.
think thin and quest can be higher in SA's. If they don't bother you then you should be fine. they personally make me sick and have tremendous digestive issues.
Mission one's are popular, muscle tech, power crunch bars are a few others.

Power Crunch are tasty, but not high enough in protein for the calories. 200 calories, but only 13g protein. (Source)

For protein bars, you're best off finding something that has at least 10g protein per 100 calories. That rules out a LOT of things labelled with "protein" on the box!
Most of the ones that are most WLS-friendly have sugar alcohols of some sort or another. I haven't read about too many people having trouble with the sugar alcohol, since there's less of it than in something like SF gummy-bears; I've never had a problem, but I have VSG and don't know if that's part of it.
Quest Bars are fairly popular. About 200 calories and 21g protein each. I like the s'mores flavor best, but everybody has their favorites.
FitJoy is pretty good too, and they have some unusual flavors. Their birthday-cake flavor is a nice change from the usual chocolate or peanut butter.
I'd suggest heading to your local vitamin shop, where you can usually buy single bars rather than large packs of them. Try a bit on days when you're not going to the gym, and see how your body reacts in advance!

I use the Costco/Kirkland brand bars. 21 grams protein with 190 calories and 1 gram sugar.
They're just the right level of "nothing special" tasting where you only eat them as necessary.
I posted this same question about 7-10 days ago and everybody suggested for me to stay away from protein bars maybe because; 1) I?m a little bit over 3 months post op 2) I used to eat quest bars like candy bars . I was told to try almonds...which is a good option if you can keep the numbers down. So I made zip lock bags of 10 almonds in each, and I keep them in the car for emergencies.

I mostly make cookies out of Quest Bars, even the ones I am not fond of as bars taste yummy as cookies... and they are way better portion control. I get 8 cookies per bar and 2 are a great portion for me when I want something sweet, at a movie or on a plane.
