I am 3 days shy of my 2 weeks post op. I am still on liquids. I have read online that there are some doctors that start stage 2 after 1 week, but my doctor is requiring 2 weeks? How many of you started stage 2 diet before 2 weeks?

stage 2 for me is beans, cheese, yogurt (all low fat)

You will get a myriad of answers, It really doesn't matter what others did- you need to follow your plan.

The bottom line is what Peach said.

But in answer to your question, I was not allowed those foods until the beginning of week four.

Humm, that's strange. How did your new pouch feel about that? I am allowed to have yogurt starting Tuesday. I'm most nervous to try deli meat. I can also have thin sliced turkey.

I had to wait until after 8 weeks for deli meat. Too soon is a pretty good bet for a painful day or 2. If you're lucky.

Yep. To me that seems weird too - but lots of folks leave the hospital on soft foods. I didn't actually get the go ahead for "real" food until week 9. Different surgeons just seem to have different philosophies on the best way to advance postop diets.

edited to add: That's why it's not very helpful to compare your surgeon's plan to others. It won't do any good and might tempt someone to deviate from their own surgeon's instructions. Especially when the head hunger (or real hunger) pops up. If you're wanting to advance your diet sooner, you can always call your surgeon's office and ask. Sometimes they are willing to tweak some things to make things less onerous.

Deli meat seems like skipping over a few grades. These plans are all a bit different and IMO some of them are not that great.

No, DON'T follow your plan. Surgeons can be, and often are, wrong. Low-fat foods often have sugar and carbs added to maintain flavor and "mouth feel". Eat full-fat beans, cheese, etc. Unless you have a bad gall bladder, you will not gain weight from these foods. And be careful of yogurt and milk due to its high natural sugar content. Remember that whether it's sugar, natural sugar, fruit sugar, fructose, glucose, whole grain, 100 percent grain, wheat, carbs or lactose, it is still sugar.

And if you don't believe me (and maybe you should, given I have had some degree of success, but anyway...), believe the ASMBS, which your doctor is most certainly a member of, which says stay under 50 g of carbs a day.

huh? The OP is only two weeks out and hasn't yet advanced through all of the dietary stages. Are you telling her to ignore her surgeon's plan this early out?

I must be missing something here.
