Protein
I'll be having surgery on Tues and know that I will need to consume a high amount of protein. What are the best sources of protein that you veterans have found? What are the easiest to consume. I know about Greek Yogurt. Is there one better than the other?
Thanks,
Nervous but excited

Just a small heads up on the Premier Protein: I looooooved these pre-surgery and I stocked up to have them on hand after surgery. Well, once I got home and was ready to start drinking them, I found that I couldn?t choke them down. I had such bad nausea that my dr called in a couple prescriptions for me and recommended that I switch to a clear protein like isopure for a while.
This doesn?t happen for everyone, but I know premier Protein doesn?t agree with everyone early on, so I would recommend not getting too much of a single type of protein until you know what you tolerate well.
I?m 8 months out now and I drink premier Protein in small doses as a coffee creamer. But if I have a whole shake it makes me gassy and bloated.
Faves for me early on were cottage cheese, soft scrambled eggs, and isopure.

Early sources other than protein shakes are Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. Then eggs. I pureed chicken and fish when I was on pureed and soft foods.

I've been drinking Premier Protein shakes since day 1. I still use the vanilla flavor for coffee and oatmeal. I also eat a lot of Greek yogurt. Greek style is denser than normal yogurt in case you're not familiar with it. For me the brand called Fage is the absolute best. I eat 2% with sugar free syrup or sugar free preserves.
I preferred ricotta over cottage but now I don't really eat much of either.
I also add plain protein powder to certain things like soup or oatmeal.

When you're very newly post-op, you'll probably be relying a lot on protein shakes. There are lots of kinds out there, your best bet is to try samples of them all so you can find something you like (or at least tolerate). You can also get protein powder to mix into things like SF pudding and soup.
Once you're able to eat "real" food again, there are tons of options. Meat, eggs, cheese, tofu, and dairy products are all good choices.
