Skim milk vs. Half and Half

For oatmeal etc I'm trying to decide on skim milk (lower calories but higher sugar) or half and half (higher calories but less sugar). What do you think?

That's an unusual comparison. Why not consider 1% or 2% milk before half and half?

and how far out from surgery are you? Oatmeal may not be your best use of calories.

I'd stay away from skim milk completely so wouldn't use it with oatmeal. It doesn't offer enough protein or nutrients and may have more sugar and/or salt compared to fatted milk.

I think regular milk would be fine for making oatmeal. Not sure that half & half would make much of a difference with regards to the flavor, between it and regular milk.

I wouldn't encourage anyone over the age of 7 to drink whole milk.

Because we don't need the fat and calories as much as we grow-- our diets diversity and we can get that from other sources. I took my kids off of whole milk before they started kindergarten.

I can see that. But in regards to OP, if trying to choose between skim milk and H&H, I would think whole milk would be a good compromise. Still good fat, but not as many calories as H&H.

Quiet honestly I don't even know what half and half is made up of. It's 1/2 of what and what? I thought it was a creamer for coffee. Still seems odd to not consider 1 or 2 % milk.

i make oatmeal with 2% milk. If I desire a richer consistency I add 2% evaporated milk too

Half whole milk half cream

HW 510 / SW 424/ GW 175 (stretch goal to get 10 under) / CW 160 (I'm near the charts ideal weight - wonder if I can stay here)

Have you looked into almond or cashew milk? Lower calories and there is unsweetened options too. You could also look into soy milk. I don't think cows milk would be a great option.
