Same here, I did NOT eat oatmeal, potatoes, pudding, applesauce, jello, or creamed soups after surgery; instead, I consumed protein shakes, eggs, plain Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, and later refried beans with cheese.

Food is fuel, not fun. Especially right now. Yes, nothing but yogurt is boring, but it's what you need to let your body heal, so it's time to put on the big girl panties and deal.

Make sure you go by your offices plan. I am not your norm, I was hospitalized alot for malabsorption. I did not tolerate the potatoes but you can see if you can start eating refried beans and such but your not that far out. Trust me this gets better and time really does fly.

As the others have already said, no one has ever had trouble giving up protein shakes. EVER. So I seriously question your surgeon's advice. Protein shakes provide protein which your body needs to heal and some calories without carbs (and carbs are weight loss killers), but oatmeal and mashed potatoes are nothing BUT calories from carbs. The hardest adjustment for most of us to make after WLS is giving up our carb-laden eating habits. Your surgeon is only making it more difficult for you by suggesting that you eat oatmeal and potatoes. MOST surgeons recommend ONLY protein based foods or -- very early out and ONLY for those first few weeks -- things like pudding with protein powder mixed in.

As far as your food boredom... well, get used to it. Even once you can eat solid foods, you are likely going to find yourself eating a lot of the same things over and over again. The problem with the "boredom" is that it is usually accompanied by cravings for carbs or other unhealthy choices.

Drink the shakes. Think of them as medicine and lose the weight. Your surgeon is dumb, because honestly if you could stay on shakes only until goal you'd hit it fast, right? The idea is to lose the weight as fast as possible. So why would being "hooked on shakes" be a bad thing?

Lishamc1 - I've read your previous posts and you have asked for a lot of guidance, which many folks have taken time to provide; however, in most of the threads you have not followed up with the community or acknowledged the advice received. So in my opinion it's starting to feel like it's in one ear and out the other. Are you doing anything with the info to move forward or make changes, or is your main reason for posting to vent and complain? Not sure how we can best assist you. Can you let us know?

I do take the advice from what people say to me on here, not always can I reply. I do take it all to heart and I'm trying to go through all of this the best I can. I may not reply to everyone but i read it all and try to imply it.
