I try to stay away from them unless I' don't have another choice due to carbs.

Quest bars for me cause massive RH attacks and some of them make me miserable bloated. I carry almonds with me everywhere. I buy the small ziplock bags intended for medicine/pills and fill those up with 8-10 almonds. I have them stashed in the interior pocket of all my purses, glove boxes in the car, etc. I find that they fill me up more, don't cause RH, last a long time, aren't a gooey mess in the heat, give me a good crunch factor and are easy to share with others if needed.

As Daisy says, there are tons of protein snacks available on the go, but it happens to all of us when we are out and about and need something. You are so early post-op - I'd be careful of using them as food substitutes. I have found as I get farther out that knowing how to find and eat normal food found in any situation has served me well given my international life.

Almonds can also be a slippery slope for me where protein bars aren't. We all have our own triggers (and have to keep away from them once we figure them out).

I have a very "on-the-go" job. I travel between 7 work locations all over the state and I am often in the car upwards of 5 hours a day. 80% of the time that I get to where I am going there is not a refrigerator I can use... So needless to say I am Queen of the high protein, no fridge snacks.

I agree with the others that during the losing phase they are not a good idea, but I had to rely on them more than I wanted to as a back up. I always treated them like a last resort, but I had them with me just in case. Otherwise I would have been running to a convenience store or Dunkin Donuts, and nothing good would have come from those choices.

I am 2+ years out and have been at goal for 17 months. I still always have an extra babybel cheese, a baggie of nuts and a baggie of jerky with me wherever I go. But there are also 2 quest bars in the car's middle console, just in case, too.
