good morning. Surgery went well, but they had me stay an extra night because of pain control and inability to drink enough liquids. I had hiccups and extreme burping, but wasn't able to pass gas and they were concerned about that, but I was walking a lot and the swallow test looked good.

I came home yesterday afternoon and have been doing my best with water and today supplementing with protein drinks. It's difficult to get them down. Even though I'm sipping very slowly, they're still causing cramping in my belly.

I know it's going to get better! Thanks for all of the good wishes on surgery day.

days 3-5 were the worst. I felt like I was dying and I was very dehydrated! If you are still struggling ont he liquids, you can call your center and ask for IV fluid. Keep that in mind as my center now does this standard for patients...

keep walking and drinking. you might also want to check the shakes you are drinking, you might have issuesw with milk if they contain milk.

I agree with those above, day 3 - 5 is the absolute worst. Rest, walk, and drink your liquids. It will get better, I promise. I have my almost 3 month doctors appointment today. As of this morning I am down 100lbs. I feel so much better than I have felt in years.

I promise it gets better!

I found I had to switch from Protein Whey to Whey Isolate because my protein drink was giving me soo much cramping and gas. I switch to a protein whey isolate and had a lot better time. Also.. try changing the temp of your drinks.. see if hot/warm helps you drink more. My Nutritionist and my dr both said that for the first week they were more concerned with me getting liquid in then protein. Hope you start to feel better soon. I felt miserable for almost 1 1/2 weeks, lol still some days I feel bad but it gets better!

me too. Whey was awful for me after surgery. I think the whey isolate is lactose free? Also, someone here told me to put the protein drinks in medicine cups, I used shot glasses. Psychologically, having 2oz in front of me every hour, rather than a big bottle staring at me made it a bit easier. I would alternate. 2oz of protein drink, 2oz bone broth, 2oz water.

You are right. It does get better. It's just going to take some time.
