I don't know. My vitamin levels were all great last time they were checked. I'm going this week to have them checked again.

I'm sure deficiencies could do that! For me at least, my vision is blurring because of blood pressure stuff.

I am over 9 years post op. I still have it. I just learned how to adapt. It is not as bad as it used to be shortly after RNY as I was losing. Now - if it gets really bad - i know I did not get enough salt. Because I don't eat a lot - relatively, and mostly low carbs - I need to make sure I add salt and minerals on daily basis.

My BP is relatively low and not enough salt in my diet may cause it to get lower or have more significant OH.

Drinking too much water -tea and tea may also cause loss of minerals - there is a balance when I need to switch from tea to bone broth or chicken stock to get the salt and other minerals.

Keto style diet - low carb/higher fat require to get more salt/minerals. I sometimes forget.

Well it's good to know that at least it gets better. And that it's manageable. You always have such great wisdom and advice to offer, thanks!

I've been a saltaholic my whole life. (I've always carried a salt shaker in My purse) no joke. My husband has always teased me for it, but now I know it is probably because I need it.

When I told him my doc said to increase my salt he thought I was full of crap.

Interesting. did you know that people who have adrenal issues have problem with lower BP, hypoglycemia, RH, and OH? and craving salt is one of the common issue?

Craving salt, OH, low BP, low HBR, hypoglycemia, etc. - are some of symptoms of adrenal deficiencies.

Unfortunately - it is very difficult to find a good endo who can run proper tests to figure out what is going on.

I probably had the issue (moderate secondary adrenal insufficiency ) before I had RNY- but when i got to a normal weight and started having severe issues - i was able to find a doc who finally diagnosed me and put me on steroids. That helped so much. Just enough of HC (hydrocortisone) to help my system. Makes a huge difference waking up from any surgery, or during really stressful times.

Most enodos deal with diabetes, and critical cases of adrenal failure. A lot of people get not diagnosed for years. I had to wait 10 months to see the best endo in my town to get tested. The other one I saw - told me that RNY caused my issue and to deal with that. Right.

I had a few episodes that I passed out from HO or hypoglycemia. I am sharing that because a lot of people don't know that. Un-diagnosed adrenal insufficiency may make life so much difficult.

interesting. thanks for mentioning this. I will watch for this. I looked up adrenal insufficiency and I don't have the most common symptoms, but will be alert to it if i develop them. All my blood glucose levels have been normal on my tests, so no hypoglycemia that I know of.

I do know I'm not alone. My mother is also a saltaholic and has low blood pressure. She has not had the dizzyness or OH issues I have though (she has also never been obese).

I think she is concerned that this is all a result of me losing too much. she's been googling and reading things about my organs being deprived of oxygen and generally being a mom. My doctor doesn't seem to be too concerned..so I'm going with that. She did a test in the office to see if my blood pressure drops when i stand (it didn't) so she seemed not too concerned.

I do know that at 120lbs overweight my blood pressure ranged from 100-120/70-80, pulse in the low to mid 60's...so I do think it makes sense it would drop as I lose. Now my new normal is around 85-90/50-55 with a pulse in the low to mid 50's.

Ouch. You really have low BP. I thought mine was low at 100/60. And that after double expresso. Even when I was MO I had normal to low BP.

Good that you don't have other symptoms of AI. It sucks. But .. It can be managed.
