hi all,

i am nervous something went wrong in my surgery. I just had my bypass on 9/8. Ruyny is the type I had. A week later I feel great. I had pain the first 2-3 days then started feeling better each day. Stopped pain meds on day 3.

I am am concerned because I do not feel full after eating or drinking 2 ounces. I have stuck to the diet religiously if 2 ounces of food 3 times a day. First 3 days were all liquid, next 3 days soft food like yogurt or soup, and now I am on to soft foods. I am fighting the hunger, but feel like I could keep eating and drinking. I even over drank water on accident, prob 6 ounces, and felt fine.

I don't have any signs the surgery didn't work. One of the reasons I did the surgery was to help feel full and not to over eat. Reading this forum my experience seems very uncommon.

any help or advice is appreciated.

Quit chasing finding that full feeling. 1) youy a new post op and nerves were cut and everything is swollen. You likely won't feel it this early. 2) even after you've healed you need to measure your portion and stick to it. You will gradually be able to eat more and more- so measuring is key.

What you read online is people having problems. Zero problem people don't post. Unless they make zero problems into a problem.

What you are experiencing is common. One day soon you will get complacent, and eat a little too fast, or not chew quite well enough. Then you will know your surgery is working just fine.

What both Peachpie and Grim said. I am also going to add when you transition to dense food you will know your pouch is there. Good Luck!

If your experience reading the forum is that what you're dealing with is uncommon, try reading a little more.

It's not the majority experience, I'll grant you. You should be happy about that. Lots of people have a hard time immediately post-op. Hard enough that they get what's known here as "Buyers Remorse". They actually regret having the surgery. One person in particular stands out recently. He began asking about reversals basically as soon as he could get to a computer. Not everyone is that rattled but honestly they used to call the first week post-op "hell week"; no one talked about it until you were in it and it was no fun.

As far as not feeling like the surgery was done, yep, that happens too. If you keep reading you'll see posts like that here, on the Main Board and probably on the VSG board and maybe the DS board as well. You can try the search function although I'm not sure it works that well. Or just keep reading old posts. People feeling just like you will pop up I promise and you won't have to read long.

I don't have any thoughts on what you're eating or able to eat. My surgeon had us on weeks of fluids both before and after surgery so I can't even picture already being able to eat two ounces at a week and a half out. But if that's what your diet progression looks like, keep following it. If you have no "full" feeling it's especially important to follow your surgeon's plan.

Listen to what people with experience here have to tell you. You're now post-op so you'll likely want to listen to other post-ops. Those that haven't had surgery yet can't help you, no matter how well intentioned. Good luck and keep posting.

You're super lucky. I had so much pain I thought I would die, and I had to wake up early and stay up late just to get two premier protein and my water in. I had to sip 1 tiny sip at a time or it hurt like crazy.

Like others have said, your nerves have been cut and you won't get that full feeling, so relying on measuring is super important. You're lucky you don't have pain, but you still have to keep in mind that your insides are healing and you need to be super careful not to hurt your new pouch.

Just keep following your plan and trust that it will work. Wishing you all the best.

I am amazed you are already on soft foods. I had my RNY 2 days before you. I am still on Full liquid diet until Sept. 27th. Then I will be on blended/pureed diet til Oct. 4th. Then soft foods from Oct. 5th to Oct. 11th. After that I can start eating regular textured foods in to my diet. I know all surgeons do things differently. I am just amazed you are already on soft foods. I was told we would start the full feeling more with soft foods. congrats on surgery and good luck on a new life style.

You and I must have similar surgeons Dorothy. I wasn't allowed solid food until week 9. I think that makes it seem like everyone else's diet progresses really quickly. In reality though, there are those who go home from the hospital on soft foods. That's why we always tell new people to follow their own surgeon's plan.

My planner from my surgeon calls it eating for healing. I was told jumping into regular foods quickly can hinder the healing process. Yes, all surgeons are different. In the UK they put there patients pre-op on a milk diet. They only drink milk.
