depression or funk
has anyone gone through a funk or depression after they had surgery? I'm not sad I had the surgery, nor do I feel bad. My body feels good, I am not in any pain at all. I am 1 month and 6 days out, surg. was on Aug. 7. I just feel BLAH. no motivation, just not my normal happy go lucky self.

I'm so sorry you're feeling this way. I think other people have also gone through this.
I was lucky; it was the reverse for me. I was depressed and anxious for ages and ages and started feeling better on the preop diet, and even though I had a lot of pain, my mood was great after surgery. I have occasional down days now, but they're normal down days, not a deep depression like before surgery.

Major life changes increase the likelihood that a person will experience difficulty in transition. Here is a good little article about handling life changes. If it persists it would always be a good idea to get evaluated professionally just in case. I know for me I went through a funk at first then felt great.

Definitely. It took me 6 months to start to feel "normal" again. At the year mark I felt great.
I had to do the old "fake it till you make it" routine.

Laura, exactly. Fake it. My "depression or funk".. doesn't cause me to be mean or sad, I'm just not my normal bubbly self. My co workers have noticed that I am not my normal smiley silly self. I am more... get my food/water/protein/work done.. and go home. I normally have bounced back from surgery in NO TIME at all. This time.. no way. Of course my Sweet Mom reminded me... Honey, you are 52 years old, the older you get the harder it is to bounce back. LOL She's probably right. I'm less than 6 weeks out. Have you ever seen the people on "my 600 lb life"? those folks seem to take 4 or 5 months to get out of the hospital and they can eat a lot right off the bat.. some of them are eating all kinds of stuff and lots of it, not on program. What is that all about? The first time I tried a bite of an onion ring.. I almost vomited, I don't think I can handle the fried food.
anyway, I ramble.
Thank you everyone for your input!
