You just made me do some deep breathing here at my desk

Thank you! I actually am having some anxiety this morning (over life in general) and that was a good reminder!

Congrats on your upcoming surgery! In the days leading up to my surgery, I was really nervous and tried to stay busy cleaning and doing projects to keep my mind occupied. As others have said, it is normal to feel nervous about a big change, but it can feel overwhelming.

I started a journal in the weeks leading up to surgery and I've found it a helpful thing since. I log what I eat and exercise, as well as thoughts and feelings that come up related to the changes happening in my life. You might want to give it a try.

So, I felt like there was something wrong with me because I DIDN'T have any anxiety over the surgery! LOL

It's very common, and maybe even a bit healthy because what you are doing is a huge commitment and change.

It'll be OK though, and it sounds like you are already taking this seriously. Hang in there!

I think what you are feeling is very normal for many people. Continue to arm yourself with knowledge and follow your plan-that's all you can do. Maybe find a new hobby or something in the meantime that will help pass the time and it might be beneficial post-op too. Best of luck.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery! As others have said, it's completely normal. In fact, it's probably a tad abnormal to have no fear/anxiety about an elective procedure that will change your life/lifestyle forever.

Just as an added note, you may also feel some regret shortly after surgery. The "oh my god, what have I done to myself" phase. Also totally normal, and this too shall pass.

Its a major surgery with major impacts. And it's quite challenging in the beginning. I had about as easy of time as possible (well, until this week - but I'm 18 months lost-op now). Even though everything went extremely well I still had moments of panic thinking "wth? Why didn't I just diet some more? This was too drastic".

But you'll get through it. In the end, I love the changes this procedure has "forced" on me. I love being healthy and all the positives that accompany it. I would do it over and over again.

And certainly meditation/relaxation will be helpful to get through any periods of stress/anxiety. You've got this and you'll do great.

I'm just in the beginning stages of planning RNY surgery and am new to ObesityHelp. This post conveys exactly how I am feeling-and I haven't even scheduled a surgery yet! It's 100% normal to feel anxiety over things you are utterly certain about. Frankly, it's human nature. But the risk will be totally worth the reward. Thank you for this post and I wish you the best of luck!
