I applaud your dedication to eating healthfully pre-surgery! I didn't and it just meant more to lose after surgery, so I am impressed with your plan. However, don't be too hard on yourself for having an extra helping of 2 oz of taco salad. I could have never lived on that before my humungous stomach was made into a pouch. I think having extra meat/lettuce/cheese is not going to sabotage you. Little Debbies and donuts are another story ;) But don't be too hard on yourself for not eating post-op quantities of protein. Just my opinion :)

I agree! Pre-op... 8 ounces of taco meat were probably more my 'norm'.

I also didn't lose prior to surgery, and I wish I would have tried harder. I think you're doing great just trying as much as you have.

Little Debbies... I still walk past them at the grocery store and salivate!

Ugh, pre-op I would have had the 8 oz (half the 1 lb package of ground meat) in 4 shells with lots of cheese and sour cream, and a side of chips and salsa...and then maybe dessert two hours after that. I horrify myself when I think of my old portion sizes!

Same! But I'm really trying to be mindful of proper portion sizes (and measuring) and eating when I don't need to eat now, to "practice" I suppose. Plus, even though I don't have an official order to lose right now, I know insurance would prefer to see weight loss as a good faith effort at lifestyle change. Plus, less to lose post-op! I can usually get myself down 15-30 lbs by dieting, so if I can do that much now, then I'll have a tool to keep me going down.

It's seriously awesome you are committed to it. I took the opposite route and kept feeling like "I will never have a pile of nachos the size of my head again so I better have them NOW". Totally stupid decision. It's great to get focused before surgery and have less to lose. But don't beat yourself up if you eat more than 2 oz of meat - **** at 4 years post-op I eat 5 ounces or more! :) Not eating if you're not hungry is definitely a great thing to start practicing. As is not drinking with meals or 30 minutes after, which I am religious about.

Oh I don't beat myself up about having more protein. I just happened to only use 2 oz of the taco meat since I used a lot of other stuff with it on the salad. I don't necessarily eat WLS portions yet. For example, I'll share a chicken breast with DH (who had RNY in may) And eat half the breast for my dinner with a full side of veggies, while DH makes his half almost into two portions and maybe has a bite or two of veg.

Also: I would love to eat a plate of nachos the size of my face. I'm salivating just thinking about it. Maybe I'll allow a food funeral before I start the liquid pre-op diet? I friggin love nachos.

That was totally me too! I had plenty of pizza, friend chicken, mashed potatoes, Mexican food - oh, lots and lots of Mexican food!!!

I think I've eaten at a Mexican restaurant maybe 2-3 times since surgery... I avoid it if I can, but before WLS I would eat 2 baskets of chips EASY... BEFORE my meal (just me), then probably another 1/2 basket WITH my meal... then have the so-papilla they give you at the end of your meal....

Yes too to the not drinking with or after meals... that one I didn't practice until it was time. I NEEDED that soda, so I could wash down the food I shoveled into my piehole as fast as I could... now I actually have to chew it enough to be able to swallow without the aid of a soda to get it down (and for some reason I thought I could eat more with a soda versus water, because 'burping' would open up more room!)

I think Mexican is very important pre op. We were a 2 chip basket and extra queso couple.

Lol well it's more of all the stuff I topped my taco salad with--cheese and sour cream, which I did not measure out and I'm sure was excessive. And I was not hungry enough to need the second helping, which is what I'm trying to be mindful of during this time--eating when I don't need to.
