everything tastes different , even water! and not in a good way.
Congratulations on 40lbs lost. I am also 5 weeks out and have lost 43 lbs. I having the same problem. I am so hoping that its ketosis and it will be gone before too long. I am having to force myself to eat because everything taste so bad. After a few bits I just don't want it anymore. As for drinking it's the same way everything is nasty. I have gone back to the 1oz cups that I got from the hospital and I make sure to take at least one every 5 to 15 minutes. I agree with MEerKat1994 I am popping mints like crazy to help with the nasty taste.
Yes, I had this for the first month or so after surgery and it drove me crazy. I brushed my teeth obsessively trying to get rid of the bad taste in my mouth. I also used a dry mouth spray...can't think of the name, mainly because of the peppermint taste. I had to start adding no sugar added flavor drops to my water to get my water in.
It does go away. Good luck.

For me it was an up and down cycle for about a year. I would have periods of only being able to eat or drink certain temperature foods without the feeling of "grossness" overload! LOL Try water at different temps. Sometimes I had to warm it up and it lemon in it, others I had to have tons of ice and limes or oranges. Oatmeal and cottage cheese are a couple of soft foods that are easy to add flavors to find something that will work. I'm 14 years post-op, I think you are doing great!

Its Ketosis, which is a good thing! regretfully it does come to an end and you start loving food again.
