3 days out and really having trouble with protein shakes

I second the Syntax Nectar recommendation. I swear, it got me through the first year. I used Fuzzy Navel or other fruity flavor -- mixed with water and a Mio/Cystal Light in a complimentary flavor.
Also, what White Dove said is also true: right now the most important thing is to get your fluids (water) in -- it's perfectly normal and acceptable not to be getting all your protein in for the first 2 to 3 weeks.

Check out Allstar Health.com. I find they have the best deals on Syntrax. Usually 33 v 39 bucks and reasonable shipping levels.

I had to keep the premier protein nearly frozen in the early days to get it down. I used 1 oz cups from the hospital to help with pacing.
I also like it with my decaf coffee, might be worth trying if warm is better than cold.
After 5 days of constipation, I would also be nauseous, I lose appetite after 3, nausea and back pain follow on day 4-5.It might be time for something stronger than miralax.

You mentioned that just the thought of the protein shake makes you nauseous. Sometimes we mentally make things worse than they are. I encourage you to try to combat that with some positive statements. for example:
protein keeps my body healthy while I am healing.
Each hour I am healing, and this sip of protein will be easier to process than it was X hours ago
I can do hard things
etc
i also agree that that it can be easier if you thin the protein down, and let it settle so there are no bubbles after mixing.
Dont be discouraged. This moment will pass.
I'm sorry you're having a rough time.
I kept my premier protein shake in a bowl of ice and then just poured it into the medicine cups. I had to have it super cold at first; anything else made me nauseated. I did like it though, especially the vanilla at first. I forced myself to drink 2 a day because my surgeon said the protein was super important for healing. I alternated with a medicine cup of water, then a medicine cup of protein, all day long. I had to wake up early and stay up late in order to get my water and protein in. I waited 10-15 minutes between medicine cups, and any more than 1 tiny sip at a time caused pain and discomfort.
I also had chicken broth as part of my fluids, but could only drink it luke warm; anything hot really hurt in the first few weeks.

Thank you all so much for the advice! I am now drinking out of shot glasses every 15 minutes. I liked the idea of alternating protein and water. It's much less daunting not having an 11 oz shake in front of you. I am feeling a bit better today when I drink, less pain. This morning I had a small BM, sorry, TMI. I found a 25gm, plain, Greek yogurt at the store yesterday. I put half of it in a blender with 1/2 a scoop of mixed berry protein powder and thinned it out with almond milk and ice. It is so much better than straight protein powder. It's the artificial sweetener that I think is getting to me. I have always been very sensitive to it and it's much worse now. I hope after a few weeks when most of the healing has taken place, I may tolerate it better.
I am on Day 4 post op and I have been struggling as well. My pouch is rejecting anything Dairy like premier protein. I find the Syntrax Nextar Fuzzy Navel seems to be compatible with my pouch. I try to increase my protein each day so I will eventually hit my target.
Best of luck.
