Keep an open line of communication not only with the doctor's office, but with your insurance company as well. Once the doctor says they've sent it in for approval, don't be afraid to call the insurance company to verify they've received it, and ask questions.

It took me being very vigilant with both places to get it approved and get things moving!

Call your insurance after you are approved and make sure there is not a LIMIT to how much they will pay. I was approved, had surgery, and was sent a $12,000 bill (the difference owed since my COMPANY had a $10,000 limit which the insurance NEVER told me about). That being said, I would scrape and save $12,000 a year to have RNY if I needed to! Best thing I ever did!

Do you know much about insurance claims? I have met my deductible for the year, I have 1800 out of pocket left. When I called in the beiging of everything they said they would cover weight loss surgery but mever went into details.

It varies by insurance provider and company, I'm afraid. Definitely don't let it deter you! Being a healthy size is the greatest gift I ever gave myself!

There is a person in your dr's office that is their insurance specialist. They know what to submit and how to submit it. A week after it is subitted, talk to this person and see what typically happens with that insurer.

Good luck
