You were worried about something happening to end your dense active lifestyle...This recently happened to me. I was working out 3-4x a week prior to surgery and after surgery I was doing weights 3x week and cardio of some sort 6x a week. Then I started having thigh pain. I thought I pulled my hip flexor during dead lifts or my pit bull (who likes to cuddle and lay on my legs) pulled a thigh muscle but it only got worse. It's been almost 2 months and 2 different doctors think I have a rare condition (AVN) that will lead to a hip replacement. I've been told not to bare any weight on that leg since. I still go to the gym and do core and arms -just sitting. I'm waiting on a surgeon to make the final diagnosis.

I don't mean to be a debbie downer- it sounds like it sucks - and in a way it does. I lose 70lbs and now I can't walk! But there is always an upside. I survived kidney cancer - going on 6 years and down to one not so great kidney but the cancer metastasizing to my bone was a real concern and it was ruled out first. Just knowing I am going to live makes anything else do-able.

I plan to take up swimming soon and continue going to the gym. I think health issues can be made to be just minor set backs in the big scheme of things

You've really overcome a lot!

I've been blessed with great health, which I've mostly wasted. I have the BRCAII mutation yet even though I was obese and inactive, I didn't have breast cancer while my active, breast feeding, healthy eating sisters both got it. I had a prophylactic mastectomy and my ovaries out to reduce my risk AFTER I found out I had the mutation, and this weight loss is the final leg of my "risk reduction process".

Now I'm turning fifty and I know I'm at risk for a lot of things that could reduce my activity - but my plan is like you have demonstrated, to figure out how to address and overcome obstetrical where I can.
