What's on your Menu today (Tuesday) RNYers?
I totally get it, we each have to do what works for us. At one point, at the suggestion of my surgeon, I had my hubby hide the scale. I would weigh once a week but it gave my brain a break from the daily fluctuations-I think I did that for a month and it seemed to help. I hope you find something that will work for you so you don't feel discouraged-YOU GOT THIS!
at 9 years post op - at goal - my weight can be anywhere between 144-152. Though I seldom see 144 or over 150...I seen them.
I try to weigh daily and take the average. I have a wi-fi scale so as long as I step on it - the automatically register. Then I can look at weekly trend. My typical weight stays at around 146-148 . But I can "gain" or "lose" 2-4 lbs in a single 24 hours. As long as my weekly average is below 147 - I am good. If it goes higher then 147 band stays there for more than 2 weeks - I start "trimming the carbs".

"It is not an obsession like it was at one point." I absolutely positively know what you are talking about. At the same time if I see 150+ number - i stop breathing and I had to remind myself that it is impossible to gain 2-3 lbs fat in 24 hours. Impossible to me. And figure out what is going on - swelling? water retention or simply - constipation. and if I see 144 I had to remind myself that below 145 is not good for me at my present bone and muscles mass... and it is OK to eat little more, or that I probably got dehydrated and need to up my salt and minerals so I don't pass out from low BP.

That sucks, Mandi. I didn't have a time when my scale didn't cooperate since I just stuck to the protein until I hit goal. It's maintenance that is really tough for me. I do find that when I have delicious protein options that I really enjoy at hand, I eat better (duh). Like, I might not find myself reaching for a plain chicken breast, but ground turkey with taco seasoning and mexican cheese, heck yeah! As long as I have really good (to me) tasting items, I can stay pretty high protein. I struggle more with savory food than sweet. Like, I wouldn't have a "screw you, scale" piece of cake, but I would have a "screw you, scale" bag of Doritos! So I have learned what should not be in my house (Doritos).
I see your goal weight is 125. That might not be attainable - I am not saying to raise your goal, but for example, my goal was 160 and I frankly felt good at that weight and was happy with my results. I also wasn't willing to deprive enough to get to 125, though at 5'4" I am sure that is a healthier weight for me. So you may want to seriously consider what size/body fat you are willing to work for.
I am a daily weigher, since that helps me understand fluctuations, but I know for some people, weighing once a week keeps them sane.
Keep on keeping on - pack that protein in, up your fluids like crazy (I swear I eat less when my body is water-logged) and keep your eye on what you need to do. You can do this!
You're right. I'm trying really hard to not get down on myself but it's so hard! My surgeon wants me to at least be below 150 so I should be happy with that but even that seems unattainable right now. It's so frustrating! I'm doing at least 64 oz of water a day but maybe I need to up that? I have such a hard time getting all my fluids in though. I drink when I think to drink but I'm always scared to drink too much - I'm scared that if I drink too much at a given time it'll stretch my pouch out or something. Does that happen with fluids? I haven't been able to get past 160 and stay past that. I was down to 156 (back up to 162 today) at one point but my body just doesn't want to cooperate for some reason

Oh I drink more than 100 oz of water a day! Water will not stretch your pouch. It will make you pee a lot! I got a Camelback thermos water thingy, that holds 32 oz of water. I make sure to drink AT LEAST three of those a day, and anything beyond that (coffees, or whatever) is just a bonus. I find if I use an 8 oz glass I don't get enough in, so I just tote this thing everywhere I go. It's always with me. The only time liquid is a problem is for 30 minutes after you eat a dense protein meal - if you drink right after eating, the fluid flushes the food out of your pouch and you will feel hungry sooner. I always wait at least 30 minutes after finishing my meal to drink, if not longer. But definitely don't be afraid of water - and I think if you start having more than 100 oz of water a day, you may see some scale movement!
That and then some. Well said. I use the 24 oz bottles. or thermoses (for warm tea or coffee)
