2 weeks until surgery
I am new here to this site and I read your post and I had to respond and say i share your worries and concerns. My surgery is scheduled for 9/11/17. I start my 3 wk low low carb diet soon. I'm both scared and excited for this step. So hearing that I'm not alone is comforting. Knowing that I have support through this site is empowering.
Congratulations! I am six days post-op and I can totally relate to how you feel entering the journey.
I had had the same concerns: can I do two weeks of liquids prior to the surgery? What will happen to my meds, and yes it did feel like "the twilight zone" That is a great analogy.
Here's how I looked at it: I am given a huge opportunity to become the person I have tried to be for so long--my family and friends are supporting me, insurance company is investing tens of thousands of dollars ina belief that this is good for my health, and a very talented surgeon (who could be doing a lot of more interesting things) believes this kind of surgery is rewarding for the patients he treats. My clinic has the tools I need and I know they're there for me as I have questions. Given all that, I can trust all of those people's judgment or I can think I'm smarter and do it on my own. I have seen where doing it on my own has gotten me: 150 pounds heavier than I should be. Maybe it's time to start trusting the people who do this stuff all day every day.
Giving decision-making over to them made the whole process easier: they tell me what to eat when--they want me to succeed. I followed every diet to the letter, measuring everything; I write down everything and do what they say because it works. I can do it--they know it and know how to get me there.
if I start doubting, I read these forums and am relieved to find my questions are the same every one else has and that feels very reassuring.
Best of luck to you and relax it gets easier...
