After you have the scan, can you describe it, please? What does it do and how do they do it? Just curious!

It was really easy, and not like you're in a box or anything at all... you lie down on a table with your arms at your side (They did strap my feet together to keep them close, but it was 'light bondage', nothing too extreme )... it took maybe 5-7 minutes for this arm to go over me, but it was probably 2' away from me. Again, no feeling of claustrophobic thoughts at all.

I googled DEXA Scan and looked for one that talked about total body composition, and not just bone density. This was a place that does all kinds of things like HRT, Thyroid treatment, and diet/nutrition supplements.
For me it was $125... but I've seen a lot of people on here say it's $150 around where they live.
Edited to add that I had to pay for it. Insurance doesn't cover it. I used my HSA account though, so it felt free.
You could always just drive right up here and get it done What's a few hours anyway? LOL

Gina, it's so random where you can get them done - you have to google it with your town name - I had mine done at my former GYM of all places! They got a DEXA scan machine and started offering them. I only found this out because I saw this steady stream of what looked like youngish men/boys going in this room, one at a time, and I asked what was up, and they said it was the University of Maryland football team having DEXA scans. I think I paid $100 out of pocket? My local place is: https://www.compositionid.com/services/dexa-scan/ And they have one in Houston! (not sure how close you are to Houston!)
You really, really need to stop following young football players around.

I've been thinking about doing this too - there is a place in Boston I found and I've thought about doing it on a day when DH has an appointment. I'll be interested to hear how yours goes!
They will also test RMR (resting metabolism rate) and the package price is cheaper. I've wondered if this is worth doing at the same time.

Their RMR machine is broken... for the unforeseeable future. Cindy did tell me you have to be fasting for the RMR, so keep that in mind.
I think I'm going to find a place that does the RMR and get that done as well.
After I lose 5-7 more pounds...
