Hay y'all! Mornin',

Yesterday I found out I had low Thiamine (pre-weight loss surgery). No, I'm not an alcoholic. Yes, I've just been on a tetracycline derivative just a few weeks ago, and until recently, have been eating only 400-500 cals/day for the past 3 months while trying to "practice" what it will feel like immediately following WLS without taking vitamins (my bad). I needed to see if I could handle the "all liquids/all day" routine and tolerate the protein powders BEFORE I had the added stress of rearranging my innards. I also had super high doses of chemo 6 years ago, and really haven't had an awesome diet since that time, so who knows what has caused it. So I started T1 supplementation yesterday. PCP wants me to have 100mg/daily of T1. So my weight is fluctuating within the same pound, up and down for the past 3 days as I started levothyroxin for thyroid, T1 supplements, and moved my cals up from 700 cals/day to 800 cals/day. I'm trying to take them up to 1000 cals pre-surgery to satisfy my surgeon. So I'm adding 100 cals every 2 weeks for as long as weight loss continues.

You might think that a 1lb fluctuation is silly to worry about, but stalls and gaining/losing the same weight repetitively is a HUGE trigger for me that calls beguilingly to the FIIDGAC monster that sleeps within. It's that monster that comes out and says, "Screw this nonsense, let's go eat a (insert your favorite comfort food vice here) and forget about all this weight loss bs!"

So I'm tryin' not to get antsy and to simply remain calm and just breathe, understanding that:

  1. Starting 3 new things at once will certainly cause a little scale roulette--especially since I don't exactly tear up the weight loss world with speed losses.
  2. Stalls happen (and theoretically this isn't a true stall until I have 3 weeks of no loss on the scale or measuring tape).
  3. If I just continue to work my program, all with be well. It's when I tango with the FIIDGAC monster that I end up feeling guilt and remorse and end up having to deal with 5 days of GHDWL (ground hog day weight loss--where I gain and lose the same weight over and over every day). Just work the program and KISS.

QOTD: I'd have to say it's low carb living, simply because I've been doing it for the most part (about 95% of the time) since 2001. I am still working on building new habits, or re-enforcing old rusty healthy habits. Just call me Remedial Fluffy.

Menu: 804 cals; 66g prot; 35g fat; 32g net carb

B: blue green protein smoothie

L: cup of green chile turkey soup with collard greens, hummus with carrots/rbp, avo/tomatoes

D: l.o. grilled chickie boob with classico light asiago alfredo, mozzarella, spinach and parm; sauteed zucchini with evoo and garlic; avo/tomatoes

Have an awesome Thursday, peeps!

It really sounds like you have a great idea as to what to expect with stalls/scale movement. Also, I admire how dedicated you are pre-op and you are really setting yourself up for success in my opinion.

Thanks for the encouragement hon! But please don't admire me. I'm just a big ol' hairy sinner who is um, "seein' the light" and trying to change my wicked ways after my most recent come-to-jesus-meeting with my oncologist. LOL. I hope this move towards a permanent physical change (WLS), will help me form lasting habits instead of my usual, saturday-night-ho/sunday-morning-saint pattern of behavior.

I'm not a cancer survivor, but I do have the BRACAII mutation so my weight loss goals are also related to my oncologist's advice. She said I need to think of my excess body fat as cancer food. If I walk around in Yellowstone with steaks tacked all over my body, sooner or later I'll have a carnivore checking me out. Same thing with all this body fat and the random cancer cells that are floating around inside...

Yes, this is so true. My onc is also a rabid anti-sugar guy (in any form, natural or otherwise), and he only wants me eating enough protein to satisfy my metabolic needs...so no high protein, no high carb, no high sugar--and lose the fat asap. (Ahem, well my asap hasn't been "lightening fast" over the last 6 years and he is at the point of being "gravely concerned."

Mine is all about whole foods and avoiding hormone laden meat and dairy. Thus my farm where I was raising my own food and dairy :)
