Howdy,

Recently, I was reading an article about Jennifer Anniston and what she eats every day to stay looking the way she does. So what do we have to do with movie star Jennifer? I was amazed at how clean she eats, how much water she drinks and how much she exercises to look the way she does.

If I recall, her total caloric intake was 1200 calories, she never ate sweets, cookies candy and very few carbs. She didn't eat process food, dairy and she had to work hard to look that good.

I didn't eat that much or that often for a girl my size either. But what I ate was too much and not so good for me. My resting metabolic food intake before I gained a pound was about 1350 calories.

Hey guess what? That means unless I work out every day diligently and eat like Jennifer Anniston, I will never look like Jennifer Anniston. :)

That being said, back to the original question, you wont be so hungry for the first year and you will have malabsorption on your side for a while. And at least this time over the long haul, you will follow the rules and stick to it. If you keep the portions small, you new egg size tummy post op will only be able to hold 3-4 ounces of solid protein and a few nibbles of veggies. Even still, if you are not eating the right foods and /or grazing, you can EASILY gain weight sucking down milkshakes and alcohol and potato chips.

However I just received a bunch of protein shake samples from vitallady.com to try(pretty much every chocolate flavor they have that's low cal and low carb) so hopefully, that craving can be easily met.

This is an excellent opp to educate hubby:

  1. Only 3-5% of people who take off more than 50 pounds can keep it off long-term - 5 years. Are you one of them? I was not and I could talk about how I felt while dieting and why I had not chance to keep it off long term.
  2. Even with WLS, 25% of people gain it all back, so yes, DH, I will be eating very carefully after surgery. The surgery makes is easier (but no guarentee) that I can eat long term in such a way as to keep the wt off.

Wt management is a complex (and to date not fully understood) process of eating, activity, genetics and hormone levels.

Also, keep a good food log, every bite. Begin now. You cannot compare what you eat to a teenager.

Also, check on line here to see what successful WLSers are eating after 3,4,5 years.

So in order to have surgery you only had to do a two week diet ? Oh dear. Check into nutrtional counseling, behavioral therapy. Success is sooooo much more than the surgery

yes, this is the pre-op liquid diet. I see a nutritionist too. I got lucky in that I didn't have a lot of insurance or doctor hoops to go through to be approved. Now I have to learn to eat like a skinny person. I'm learning a bunch here though.
