Laparoscopic wound not completely closing but not infected
on 7/28/17 7:18 am
Hi,
I had my surgery 17 days ago. I had the staples removed by my primary care physician. It is not infected but my primary care said they did a crappy job stapling instead of suturing and the one above my belly button is about1 1/4 inch in length and doesnt seem to want to seal shut. I have been putting steri strips and covering with bandage. The steri strips help a bit but I hate to have to drive an hour and a half back and forth to see my doctor if its just a vanity issue since I will never be a bikini model. LOL. How long did it take for your lap scars to close or heal? 4 out of 6 of mine are fine. One is almost ready to remove bandaid and the last one looks like it could take another week or 10 days.

My surgeon put some sort of film over the incisions that dissolved after a week. He also used stitches that dissolved. The incision over my belly button was the largest and took longer to heal. It became red around the edges and looked like it was getting infected so I called and spoke with one of the nurses and she said not to cover it and put hydrogen peroxide on it a couple times a day. Within a day the redness was gone.
I had an incision "pop" when I had my lap chole. You want to keep it moist with saline solution or maybe bacitracin. And covered with gauze and tape. It took a long time to heal. Looks like somebody gut shot me.
I wouldn't consider this a vanity issue. You paid your doctor to do a job. if he didn't do it right he needs to be made aware of it and fix it. He needs to know that you are not alright with being scarred for life because of his mess up.
I understand it being a minor blemish in the scheme of things but that doesn't matter. if your car gets rear ended do you tell the folks "Oh! Don't worry about replacing my bumper. I already have a few door dings sooo...oh well".

My surgeon is not local so unless I jump on a plane, its a mute point. I appreciate the sentiment though...:)

One of my incisions took over 8 weeks to heal. I was very concerned about infection and kept it clean and covered. It was right along my waist line so it kept coming in contact with my waist band of my pants.
Smartly, I put Neosporin on it and that softened all the crappy stuff inside and washed it away leaving a damn hole in my stomach. Just like, I believe it was Scott, I looked like I'd been shot in the gut! I just used good ol' hydrogen peroxide after that and wore yoga pants till it healed.
