Good morning! Yesterday we got rain which was badly needed. I water my veggie garden but not our yard, and it was looking pretty brown and sad. Last night we booked a hotel in Kansas City, MO for a mini-getaway for my birthday (I'll be 32 on August 8).

speaking of my birthday, every year I get a free cupcake at a fancy local cupcake place. They are works of art, so pretty I always have to photograph them before I gobble them up. They are pricy, so I don't go there on a regular basis at all, and I'm not much of a sweet tooth anyway. But these cupcakes are heavenly. I'm considering getting mine this year despite being on my way to a healthier me. I am trying not to use food as rewards, but I'm thinking if I can stick 100% to my planned menus (And make good choices when I'm out of town and can't necessarily plan) every day until my birthday, I will indulge in the carbilicious sugar bomb.

qotd: besides sticking to plan so I can have my cupcake, I want to write a book. I used to teach high school English and love YA literature.

breakfast: half a chicken breast with 1 tbsp salsa

lunch: 1 C spinach salad (spinach, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, dried cranberries, sliced almonds), and the other half of the chicken breast

snack: Greek L&F

dinner: 4 oz calamari

hoping to drink 100oz of water

My birthday is also 8/8 (although I'm quite a few years ahead of you...). #bestdayever #leosrule #88

BTW, my office has this tradition of buying everyone a fancy cupcake on their birthday. Last year was my first year so I didn't know about it so I didn't say no before they bought it. This year I know I need to tell the office manager not to buy it ahead of time, but... :(

High five, birthday twin!!

i will likely skip the cupcake after this year, But this year...maybe a bit of a food funeral? Lol my eating partner had surgery already, so I likely won't have any other food funerals.

I agree that Leos rule, but I would argue that 8/10 is the best day ever! Love that we all share a birthday week!!!!

Have you read The Hate U Give? I do not like YA in the least, but a friend of mine I met here (AnnyBannany!) does, and is a librarian to boot, and recommended that I read it and then give it to my BFs 15 year old daughter. It was so. good.

I have not but I'll be sure to check it out! YA gets a bad rap because of junk like Twilight, but there's SO MUCH quality stuff out there. My favorite is The Book Theif. It was made into a decent movie but the book is a million times more impactful.
