"What you eat in private, you wear in public." --- Kat
Hi Daisy,
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your comments and tips. I think tho that I am being taken out of context. I know you are not being mean and appreciate the help. I cut all carbs from my life in Feb which is why pre op i had already lost 60 lbs. I realize that they are my poison.
I was lactose sensitive before the surgery.
I was readmitted 4 days post op (so on Full fluids) while there for 1 week the surgeon took me off all lactose as I was going to the bathroom in excess of 23 times a day. The food that was brought from home for me was my protein (they were giving me none in the hospital), yogert, cottage cheese, soup made with broth and not cream. All so I would not have to have the oatmeal and fruit that they brought which while on their plan is not on mine.
You are so right they did not have the surgery we/ you did and that is why I am here and posting to get advise.
Again, thank you thank you thank you. I am heeding the advise.
Shel

I'm glad you are out. But why all the carbs in your meal plan, and zero protein? You really, really need the protein to heal, and don't need any carbs at all.

What do you mean all the carbs? What carbs am I having except what they were trying to have me eat in the hospital (oats). If you are referring to the other post. That was a sample of what was given for Puree week. Which I am not there. I am consuming 60-100 grams of protein a day right now.

Hi Shel,
I have to second what Daisy said. My surgeon was great at making incisions and doing an RNY, but crap at giving guidance about nutrition. Please please please stay away from the fruit sauces, the cream of wheat, and the oatmeal. Your body doesn't need refined carbs - it needs muscle-building protein :) Each surgeon has different food stages. Mine had me on liquids for one week post op (protein shakes, veggie or chicken broth with unflavored protein powder mixed in, sugar-free jello, sugar-free popsicles, water). At one week I was moved to full liquids whi*****luded greek yogurt, part-skim ricotta cheese. At the two week mark I was allowed soft foods, like hard boiled egg mushed up with mayo, cottage cheese, tuna. And then maybe a week later I was able to try regular food like ground turkey, chicken burgers, fish, etc.
I can fully attribute my ability to go from 351 lbs day of surgery to my goal of 160 through the support and knowledge of folks on this site who gave me the guidance that Daisy and I are giving you - run from the sugar and wheat, and fuel your body with protein. I didn't have trouble with dairy after surgery, but if you do, there are still tons of options for you to eat during the weight loss phase.
I'm sorry you had complications and hopefully it's smooth sailing from here on out! The journey isn't easy, but it's worth it. I wake up every day full of energy and with none of the aches and pains I had as a super morbidly obese person. I would have RNY every day if that's what was required. Be prepared for some mood swings as hormones are released in the first 4-8 weeks, but the tiredness will pass and if you take advantage of this amazing tool and work for it, you can see great success. Good luck!
And not only you lost the close to 200 lbs - but you also maintaining it now. This is how proper diet while you were losing contributed to overall change in your eating and prepared you for even more challenging part of WLS - maintenance.
Great job. You lost more that you weigh right now. Amazing.

Hi DC girl
MAN I wish I can edit my post. People are assuming that is what I was eating ...no that is what they were bringing me to eat. I am staying away from the cereals and fruit. I have no time for them in my life. I need to ditch this weight and let it stay ditched.
This site has been amazing as have all of you. Thngs seems to have calmed down now that I am home and can have dairy free options. You and Daisy have helped so much. I truly am thankfull.
Shel.

Sorry. The way you wrote it, we all thought the same thing -- that this is what you were actually eating.

Yes that is that I now realize. I went back and re read my post and see why you all think that.
Well i am happy to know that you will all jump in and steer us newbies right.
Thank you for all your advise. I will certainly be questioning their recommendations and remembering that I need protein first and foremost. The other "stuff" can be left alone.

Ahhhh that's insane that they were bringing you fruit and oatmeal! I am glad you were able to say no, and eat protein options.
You should be able to edit your post - click on the "More" button under your post and "edit" is a choice.
Glad you are home and glad you realize what they were pushing on you is crap, and won't help you a bit. Keep coming to the boards as you recover and progress into new food stages. I got tons of ideas from OH, and I must say Shelley's site was a godsend for recipes and ideas! http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com
