Road Trip Snacks
I could search this- but frankly, I'm feeling lazy. We'll be on the road much of next weeks and staying in a hotel, I'm building my shopping list for easy, portable items I can take with me. So when the family stops for junk, I'll have my own picks.
So far I have:
Cheese stick, Cashews, boiled eggs, grapes, tuna packets, protein shakes
(I have a lunch container that I'll put ice packs in to keep things cool)
What would you take on a road trip?

Definitely Laughing Cow and string cheese, apples, packages of nuts. I like the idea of hard boiled eggs, too. Sometimes I take packages of deli meats with me and just pull a piece or two off and eat it.

Grapes have way too much sugar for me even now. That is one fruit that I try to stay away from, even when I was trying to gain weight.
If driving in a car - I buy individually bagged "dry-freezed" fruits like apples or berries. And had that in addition to my protein snacks.
Jack Link's original jerky are very low in sugar and I often can find them in most convenient stores. We but then in packs of 10-12 in Sam's. Even Keith is now hooked on them, and often has one or 2 as a breakfast "snack".
Don't forget "Cheese whisps" (Costco,)- parmesan cheese "crackers". Yummy. You can buy them or make them.

I love beef jerky so much. I buy them in big one pound jars, there are 36 strips so I figure two-three strips per serving depending on size. I had this brilliant idea few months ago to cut the strips into little servings so I could snack on them. I went through a jar in just a few days... bad move. They dtay in their long strips now so I can see what I am eating.

It was a great idea but I can see the temptation. That's one of reasons I keep them in the freezer. That and because they stay fresh for a long time. Because I make it at home with no preservatives and very little salt they get moldy after about 2 weeks in the fridge.

With 2 guys in the house, my beef jerky never lasts long enough! I love this idea though, so I think I may stash some in my work freezer next time I make it!
