Constipation
Apologies in advance if this is not proper topic on a Sat morning....but I need HELP!!! I'm almost at the end of my 3rd week after surgery. My main complaint is constipation. I have tried smooth move tea in the last couple of weeks and it worked fine. But this week it's not working. What do you do? I don't have many choices in food (I'm on mashed/puréed food) but I try to include some vegetables in every meal. Can I take mylax (can't remember exactly what the liquid medicine is called)? Or a stool softener? Sorry again...but I really need some advice from those who've been through this.
Thanks!

I have severe constipation, actually obstipation. I had it before WLS and the surgery made it much worse.
I take at least 2 scoops of Miralax (generic) daily, per doctors prescription. Generally Miralax is safe to take after WLS but it is your doctor's call. I also take stool softeners daily, but again check with your doctor.
You have my sympathy. Constipation is very uncomfortable and in my case can be dangerous since I am prone to bowel obstructions. Eventually you will find a good routine to help you stay regular. Don't forget to drink a lot of water! Probably the best and safest way to treat it.

I take stool softeners regularly and I see that lots of people take Miralax even daily. Also be sure that you are drinking lots of water and I also find that walking helps.

I just had a bout of constipation that was so bad I would get nauseated if I ate anything - Now I'm making sure I do Miralax daily, benefiber, and sugar-free fiber gummies. My guts are much happier now!

hi everyone. what worked for me was kirkland plums. i think they are prunes but not packaged as such. i always thought prunes would taste awful, but these don't. my first dose was about 4 or 5 months post surgery and like a dodohead i took the full recommended dose of 5 plums. i didn't need any the next day, or the day after than. from then on i've taken 3 regularly every afternoon, and i'm back to my normal morning routine.
