Should I Be Able to Eat This Much?
Hey Eliza,
I get what you are talking about! I'm 8 weeks out on my revision. I'm still measuring everything but it is weird not having that full feeling! When I had my sleeve done years ago and even till my revision I would eat my portions and feel full. Not the Oh I ate too much just a satisfied ate just the right amount feeling. (I had terrible gerd which is why I had a revision) So as I started adding more solid food into my diet it was so strange not to have that sensation again. Then I got on this site and read someone's post about Remember the nerves were cut during surgery and it all clicked for me. I still measure and some meals I can't eat everything then others I eat all my protein.
The key is to always measure when you can! Also avoid carbs because they are delicious and evil :) they are my favorite so I have to avoid them. It really is a slippery slope! Good luck!
I didn't read the other replies but I know that my first month I seemed able to do a lot of eating that many others on here said they could never ever do. I realized quickly that just because I COULD I should really try to prevent it.
But WHY could/can we? Mostly because we're chewing well and eating softer foods that just push right through the other end of our pouch. We aren't feeling the stretch because the nerves haven't healed so doing this same thing later will feel uncomfortable but in the first couple of months it's painless for some of us.
How to prevent either damaging or getting used to this "bad" behavior? I try to set myself up for success by measuring/weighing everything before I put it on my plate, and then moving the remaining food AWAY from my plate, like into another room, the garbage disposal or the dog dish! If I'm left with only 4 oz of food or about a half cup of volume, then I'm much more likely to wait long enough after eating it to feel OK.
Good luck!

If you area asking if it's normal? Not for me I can eat that much now, 5 + years out, but not as soon as you, that would concern me.
It's also not wrong to ask here but you have to remember that we all have different surgeons with different plans which change over time. When I was at your stage I was allowed 3 tablespoons of pureed proteins a day PERIOD. no carbs, no shells crackers etc. so my answer would be no it's not okay, but your surgeon is different than the next one which is different than the next one... so follow your surgeon's plan.
There's a blast from the past!
