What do you use to stay regular?

One of the post-surgery problems that I've run into is that for the first time in my life, I'm having problems having regular bowel movements. I've always been regular and had no problems with constipation. The mostly meat diet that I eat now just doesn't have enough fiber to keep things moving on a regular basis. I do find that since I've started eating some veg that things are better, but I was wondering what you use to keep things moving. I see some people list things on the menu forum, but I thought I'd ask specifically what helps you. Also do you use something daily or just as needed?

I take one or two of these Docusate sodium 100 mg capsules every evening. Basic, cheap, and usually enough to keep things moving. I have found that this problem wasn't a thing for me the first year and since then has gotten to be much more of an issue. These help. If and when I need more, I use a few doses of Miralax.

I also have added oatmeal for breakfast fairly often. I find that if things aren't 'moving' in that department oatmeal can really help. Such fun!

I use a little bit of fat..i.e. cook with a LITTLE bit of olive oil, pesto or eat fatty fish AND do a jumpy type exercise to shake things loose (e.g. running/jogging, rebounding (i.e. bouncing on a trampoline), figure skating, jump rope and step aerobics)).

Yogurt, "protein infused" steel cut oatmeal, beans, roasted veggies, occasionally some Metamucil capsules.

Are re you taking iron? That'll constipate you.

I keep a container of prunes in the cupboard. I know that I don't need to go as often due to significantly reduced intake volume, but if I start to feel backed up or bloated I eat a single prune at night and the next morning I'm back on track.

Miralax... in my water 3-4 times a week...

I buy the SAMS Brand in a 3-pack...

I'd rather buy the COSTCO brand, but COSTCO isn't here in Oklahoma City... but that's a completely different story.

Come to Seattle and we'll go to store #1.

There is a great meat market called Kamp's in OKC. They grind up a ham loaf grind. It's the best.
