Hi,
Were any of you on blood thinners post op? Just wondering if this is standard protocol or not.

Hi, I don't think I am a significant risk. It s my surgeons requirement. However, I am having problems with the blood thinner . Its only for 10 days that she prescribes them.
Yes, a blood-thinning shot in the stomach area for the three days I was a post-WLS patient. Bruising at the injection site and a dislike for needles were the only "problems." I don't believe blood thinners were a standard protocol; my high BMI, older age, and health history probably made me a candidate. What problems are you having? Did you ask if your WLS surgeon makes blood thinners a routine precaution?

I had to take the shots for 7 days after.
I had no history of clots or blood issues. It was standard protocol at Cleveland Clinic.

I'd guess a minority of docs do this, but it's still common enough.
Walking is really good for cutting down odds of clots, also.

My surgeon requires 10 (or maybe it was 14) days of Lovenox post-op. (And I had to do it again after my first reconstructive surgery. Whee!)
