How long did you feel agony with every movement?
I am 9 days post op from revision surgery (VSG to RNY). I am in so much pain as if all 7 stapled incisions are ripping apart every time I get up or down or shift. I'm walking 2,000 steps and drinking protein and clear liquids. I don't know what else to do but I need some encouragement as I'm in tears right now wondering why I ever thought this was a good idea. I started at 340 so I know it's working between the pre op liquid diet and liquids since surgery but this pain is all but unbearable. Any suggestions on how long it's this bad? I can't even be by myself yet.
It's hard to say for sure, since I'm not a doctor, but that seems a long time to still be in so much pain--was your surgery laparoscopic? I haven't had this surgery yet, but when I had my gallbladder out, I was only "uncomfortable" after about 4 days. My husband had RNY in May, and was in significantly more pain BUT he also had a hernia repair at the same time (because the man is crazy!), and even then, he was doing alright after a bit over a week. I'd contact your surgical team and ask if that is normal and if there is anything further that can be done to manage your pain.

I haven't had a revision, so I'm not sure the difference in terms of surgery. But nine days does seem a lot to be in such excruciating pain like you described.
Have you spoken to your surgeons office? Or had a follow up recently?

I was never in what I'd call agony. You should talk to your doctor.

I was in terrible pain for about 2.5 weeks. I couldn't get up or sit down by myself for what seemed like forever. I had many many moments of thinking "What the heck did I do to myself". I am sorry that you are having to deal with that. It seemed like once I got over a hump at about 16 days post-op, I started to really improve daily. I am one month post-op today and I still have tenderness in my side but I am able to do most things myself. I tried very hard to not bend over or do anything to put any strain on my side. Once my surgeon told me that it was normal to have the pain in the left side since that is where the instrument to staple was inserted and there were sutures in the muscles there, it all made sense and I calmed myself down. I also was having problems with constipation and started taking colace daily and that seems to have eased my discomfort too. Tylenol also became a great friend. Pain meds did nothing for me but help me sleep at night.
Hang in there. It WILL get better. :)

Everyone has different pain tolerances so what one person feels can be totally different than another. I would talk to your surgeon and see what they can do for your pain level. It does get better. You do want to make sure that everything is ok because having a pain level that high at your stage is abnormal.
I hope you feel better soon.

I am a bit over 2 weeks post-op and still have pain & trouble bending over. I was given a Surgical binder to wear at the hospital post surgery and find that it really helps with the pain of moving around. The jiggle in my middle is what made me nauseous too. It looks like a velcro girdle that runs from the top of my rib cage to my hips. You might ask your surgeon to prescribe one or buy it from Amazon.
I'm so sorry you're in such pain. I've never had a revision but did have RNY and had crazy levels of pain for over 2 weeks. The worst thing was going from sitting to standing, or standing to sitting; the pain almost made me black out. I couldn't take the original painkillers they prescribed so they switched them to something else and I could only take a half dose of those or my blood pressure went out of wack (Can't remember now if it was too high or too low). So it was never optimally treated.
I was totally unprepared for the pain because so many people on here said they only had discomfort, and some said they didn't even believe they had surgery because they felt no different. They were super lucky.
Like others have said, call your surgeon and let him know; I did and he told me it was normal to have pain on my left side, and he actually took credit for it saying it was due to some sort of special stitch he does to make sure there will be no leaks/tears, lol.
For me, every day past the two week period got a bit better and then the pain went away. Whatever you do, don't accidentally bend at the waist when you feel better, like i did. I dropped something, bent over to pick it up, and OMG, more pain for a few weeks. So don't do that.

I think you should see your surgeon if the pain is that bad. I revised from VSG to RNY on 7/1/16 and honestly had little to no pain. I was getting myself in and out of bed the night of my surgery and the next day, when my surgeon came to check up on me, they had to send someone to find me because I was taking a walk. Once released I was only taking my pain meds at night because they made me drowsy. Such severe pain 9 days post op is out of the ordinary, I think. Please call you doctor and let us know what s/he says. Good luck.
