What's on your menu today (Wednesday) RNYers?
QOTD: we moved several times when I was a child, but oddly, I remember most of those phone numbers!
my weight is steadily dropping again. Thank God. I do think the gain was from all the sodium from eating restaurant meals a lot the last couple of weeks. Hopefully things will start to normalize again now that all of this is over (out-of-town trips, house guests, conferences, etc).
2 years 1 month (maintenance):
B: homemade Greek yogurt, six raspberries, 1 T pomegranate seeds
S: SF protein vanilla latte shake, coffee with half & half, Triple Zero yogurt
L: either chicken salad or chili (I have both in my office fridge)
D: Now that I'm thinking about it, I might have the chicken salad here (for lunch), and some chili when I get home (I still have a bunch of chili in my home fridge, too...)
probably another yogurt or a protein shake if I can afford the calories
ex: yoga!
Good morning Daisy and Friends!
I had a decent day yesterday... It was family picnic with about 30 people, hosted by an aunt and uncle at their cottage in Lakeside Ohio. It was bittersweet because my aunt is in hospice there at the cottage and it's always hard to see a dear loved one in their final stages. She had been ill last summer but this spring they discovered cancer and the family decided not to treat it since the outcome wasn't a clear payoff vs. the trauma of treatment. I was able to spend some time with her which was nice, and she was moderately responsive, knew who I was and that I was there.
Family was positive about my weight loss, lots of "how much have you lost" and only one "But you've lost that much before and it didn't last." Sadly the last comment was from an RN who one might think should know better. I just shrugged and said "That's why I opted for the RNY even though my BMI was borderline, I want to keep it off and I believe that the RNY along with a much more realistic understanding of what it means to maintain will help me get there." I think that the most powerful educational piece I provided the curious was the very limited lifetime calorie levels used by most of the successful post RNY vets. Most people thought like I did pre-WLS indoctrination, that the mal-absorption provided by the RNY would allow for a slightly higher maintenance than the well touted "1200" calorie base. I got lots of "Well then why do it? Why not just go with the Vertical Sleeve?" I told them that the surgeries were both generally successful but at the time I made my choice (late 2016) the RNY still had better long term statistics for reduced re-gain.
Accountability: I tasted several dishes at the picnic that were off plan, like a pasta dish with freshly made pesto, and a strawberry jello dessert. I haven't logged it all (but I did write it down) and I'm guessing I ended up around 1300 calories for the entire day. I did fine in protein by eating that first no matter what else was on my plate. This, of course, also kept my pouch full AND I had a small pouch day so all in all sad but not something I can't recover from.
