I lived in Connecticut for a year and I remember looking for tri-tip and asking a butcher for it and they looked at me like I had two heads.

LOL! I had the same experience. I saw one(and only one!) at Sam's club quite a while ago and never saw one again. I'm still on the hunt though.

Hi everyone ,

Happy 4th of July!

Beautiful day in CT today. Man, did I sweat my butt off the past few days in the heat and humidity while grilling and smoking meats! It makes me retain so much water! Does that happen to anyone else? Then it takes like a week to lose all the water. I'm up over 3lbs. I feel like every time I take a step all the water is sloshing around inside.

QOTD: My favorite cut of steak used to be filet but now it's Ribeye, filet, sirloin, flat iron, flank and hanger steaks. Yup, I like steak!

Accountibility: I have 99% stayed on plan with exception of a 1/2 forkful of macaroni salad.

B: 2eggs, turkey breakfast sausage

L: 3 1/2oz sirloin burger

S: tbd (protein)

D:TBD(protein)

S: Ostrim meat stick

Enjoy the rest of your day everybody!

Daisy, I'm glad the cupcake didn't taste as good as it looked. In the past, I've eaten 3-4 donuts or cupcakes that were stale and still kept eating. So if you were like me, you have improved, you didn't even finish one!!

Teena, congratulations!

I don't like steak, but am trying to eat a couple of bites when DH makes it on the grill.

Been having a wonderful time with my husband. He had a shoulder replacement on Thursday. (He has had many surguries due to osteo-arthritis.) I spent the night at the hospital and we have been together since. I make him healthy meals and we go for outings. Yesterday it was to Kroger. This morning he pulled weeds on 1 tomato plant while I did the rest of the garden. He mostly sat in the sun and watched a bug on his leg. Oxycodeine can do that. Right now he is napping, but when he is about 2 hours into the pain medication we will go for a short 1/2 mile walk at the nearby state park. We are usually so busy and into out own activities that we don't spend so much time together, so his surguries are like honeymoons.

B: 1 egg with 1/4 c of chili on top with cheese sprinkle

L: 1/2 Costco hotdog (370 cal per hotdog) w/chili

D: chicken w/carrots, celery, onion in crockpot seasoned with lemon pepper

S: Chocolate Yogurt Parfiet (Tub of greek yogurt, 1 pkg of sf instant choco pudding and 1.5 choc PP shake), then layer of cherries (probably 3) then layer of Carbmaster pineapple yogurt, then about 3 walnut halfs, then more choc yogurt, then 1.5 sliced strawberries, then a drop of white yogurt to look like whipped cream all in a wine glass. I actually made these last night for a snack

S: 2 oz of pretzels and no candy

Accountability: yesterday I did not eat any candy but I did eat about 4 oz of pretzels. I didn't gain weight with the addition of biking and hiking and warm weather which usually causes water retention, so that is good.

Exercise: Recovery bike ride, 10 miles easy pace w/o club, 1 hour of weed pulling, 1 hour of heavy yardwork with pickaxe and sledgehammer and later about a 3-4 mile trail walk.

disclamer: I am in maintenance and am very active so I eat a lot more food than many other WLS peeps. I am still working on behavior modification so please don't think you can eat pretzels and candy. When I eat too much, I gain weight and am then at the top of my range. Some people are not able to eat carbs.

Happy 4th of July! I actually slept in today until 7:30! This is unheard of for me, I'm up before 6 usually. We took the dogs to the park this morning and I got my Starbucks fix in! This long weekend has been pretty busy so today we are staying home to do stuff around the house and relax. We are BBQing ribs (YUM) and setting off fireworks with the neighbors later tonight.

Accountability - ended up eating a bag of pork rinds on the road for lunch, but I stayed in line w/my daily goals.

QOTD - Hands down -Rib eye! I love mine medium rare - charred on the outside but all pink inside. I don't like it mooing but do not over cook it! I like ALL steak and beef is my favorite meat in general.

Happy Treason Day, Ungrateful colonials! j/k. Happy Independence Day to all of you 'mericans. My sister (works, lives, and is married to a great fellow down there) loves that joke.

My favourite steak cut is still the T-bone. Who am I kidding, I've always loved them all. But the T is still it. I used to go on camping trips with friends, and my first meal on the first night was always a 2" thick one the size of a dinner plate. Oh I didn't feel that great for a little while after, but the beer soon took care of that discomfort (one way or the other). Such a stark contrast to the menu I'm sporting nowadays.

The usual menu today: B: protein shake (35g), MS: 1/2 cup 2% cottage cheese with 2 oz frozen berries (my wife bought the 2% by accident, usually we buy 1% or FF....oh well, I opened it before I saw that but it won't kill me). Lunch: protein shake (35g). AS: 1/2 cup FF Greek plain yogurt with 2 oz frozen berries. Supper: Probably chicken, about the size of a deck of cards. Maybe some steamed veggies with it.

Last night I was just irritated beyond belief going to bed, and my dreams during a restless, intermittent sleep reflected that. Even with all of the goings on this weekend surrounding Canada Day, I didn't stray from my menu plan though. Food was good, portions were good, I kept hydrated like crazy and I was very active between the fun stuff and the yard work. For all intents and purposes, I should have been down at least something. Last night I weighed myself after my weigh-in on Friday, and I was up almost 4 lbs. It didn't make sense after the weekend of mayhem.

This morning, I weighed myself again and I was back down the 4 lbs and a little bit more. My body's done that before, somewhere around 45 or 50 pounds ago, and I'd forgotten. Probably water retention or something. It wasn't carb-related, according to my fitnesspal app I was well under the limit there. It sure was annoying, but relieving. The good: It reinforced my desire to be more active in the evenings, to walk more (I already commute 11k daily round trip, walking for 2:20:00) and get back to the gym and start lifting again. Muscle is a great burner. I haven't been back since the death of my friend/workout buddy a couple of months ago, who passed away WHILE at the gym. It's just been hard to walk through that door but I know I've got to do it. Tonight. Even just a half hour.

Remember, no matter where you go.......there you are.
