good morning all-
i'm a newbie to the forum. RNY May 23. 20 lbs down before surgery and about 22 since. It's really exciting to be down to a weight i havent seen in a decade already!
but i'm loosing lbs alot faster than inches. And my fat has become really soft and jiggly. Is his a common experience? How long did it take for your clothing size to catch up with weight loss?
Also i notice my upper belly still seems distended after surgery. How long does that take to go away?
ive been lurking on this forum for a couple of weeks. You all seem very active and supportive. Thanks!
It sounds like your doing great.
Most often people need to lose 50 pounds or more to drop down a size. 30 pounds for the next size, 20 for the next, and so on. Buy the least amount of clothes you can. You'll go though a bunch of sizes.
If you work hard enough, the smaller sizes change every 5 pounds.
6'3" tall, male.
Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.
M1 -24; M2 -21; M3 -19; M4 -21; M5 -13; M6 -21; M7 -10; M8 -16; M9 -10; M10 -8; M11 -6; M12 -5.
Thanks for explaining that, Grim, as I thought I was losing my mind. I started at a 4-5X and recently got into a size L-XL, and my new clothes that I just bought last month (the XL's) are already too big...I thought I must be imagining it. I have one top in a 1X that I only wore once because it got too warm to wear it, and now that it's cold out and I wanted to wear it, it looks awful because it's so baggy. I wore it anyway so I could say I wore it twice, lol.

You skin was taut before losing 40+ pounds. Now it's got some wiggle room so to speak.
Much to my chagrin I found out that underneath my obese exterior was a flabby middle-aged guy yearning to be free.

Thanks all. What about the seemingly still-swollen upper belly? I think the rest if me would accommodate a smaller size, but my waistbands aren't getting much looser.
I'm six weeks out from surgery. Almost never hungry, and usually pretty happy on 600-800 cal a day. I think I've been lucky in that I'm never nauseous, and can eat a little bit of almost anything. Doing good on protein, getting 70-90 g a day (I'm a tall women, at ~250 currently, down from 295). Most days my diet is a nonfat cf latte for breakfast, a high protein lunch like tuna salad, a fruit smoothie with whey powder in afternoon (or an egg), and now that I'm on solid foods i cook fish of chicken with veg for dinner.
The swelling in your abdominal area will go away with time. Your still only 6 weeks out. Your doing good. My best advice is just keep following the advice your doctor gave you, but also listen to your body. Way back when, I swear I had to of 100 pounds and I didn't see it. Just stay strong, and use this time to retrain yourself on what is healthy to eat and is not. I have never deprived myself of anything, but I also knew I had to make a commitment to this new way of life.
