Headaches that go away after eating, but come back?

Does anyone else wake up with a bad headache; it goes away after eating, then comes back, only to go away again briefly after eating?

I've been getting this for 5 days. As I"m eating, and for awhile after, it feels like a weight has been lifted off my head, if that makes any sense; like a heaviness and constriction is gone, and I feel good. Then the headache comes back a few hours later. I'll call my doctor next week but wonder if it's blood sugar related.

I thought I was alone. I have woken up with a headache every day for 13 years

Do you know what causes it? I hate it. I wonder if it's low blood sugar?

Definitely check with your doc, but if nothing clear comes from it, also check with your dentist. I used to clench my jaws so much while sleeping, when stressed, I would wake up with tension headaches, which were somewhat relieved by chewing. I didn't even realize it until I got a new dentist, and he was shocked no one told me my jaw was deformed from clenching so much over the years.

I still get some on occasion during the day when stressed, but can consciously relax the muscles now, mostly by being aware. And pressing my tongue to the roof of my mouth ( you can't do that, and clench your jaw at the same time)

Thanks, that sounds awful for you; thank goodness your dentist was on the ball and figured out the problem.

I'm more concerned that the headaches go away as soon as I eat, then come back a few hours later. I've had headaches all my life (migraines) but eating never helped at all.

Twice yesterday I ate and the pain went away. I think I am going too long between meals. Or maybe you're right and I'm clenching and the chewing motion of eating releases the stress from clenching. I'll definitely mention it to my doctor and dentist.

Pressing the tongue against the roof of the mouth is a great strategy to relax the jaw. I'll have to tell my Dad about that, as he grinds his teeth like crazy. Thank you.

I happened upon your post due to myself having the same issue, headaches that improve temporarily after eating. I have a theory as to why this may happen, though it's just a theory. I think that perhaps this occurs due to an increase in blood flow to your gut, in affect decreasing blood flow in the head and giving some relief from the headache. It is just a theory that came to me after tons of Internet searches about this problem, with no answers. I will be talking to my doctor about this scenario at my next appointment. I always recommend talking to your physician and not just accepting answers from the Internet.
