post-op pain and other musings
I am 5 days out and feel like such a wimp. I have friends who had minimal pain and hardly complained. I am getting around well but cannot stand up straight and very sore on my right side. I just want to be free from soreness and discomfort, whine, whine, whine. Wish I could have 800mg of Motrin for my soreness and misery...wouldn't dare, don't worry. I doubt I could handle skin removal and I hear tummy tuck pain is much worse than this.
With that said I am thankful and grateful that surgery is over and I can start full liquids Monday. I am finding the liquid diet easy thus far and determined to make this all work. Looking forward to losing weight and feeling better.
Congrats on having surgery! I'm so sorry you're in so much pain; I was too, and it does get better.
So many people said they barely could tell they even had surgery that i totally wasn't prepared for the pain when I had mine. I remember going from standing to sitting, or sitting to standing was just awful. The toilet seat was torture, lol, but I slowly got better, a bit more every day.
It's all totally worth it though; and you have a great attitude; you'll do great!

Thank you for the commiseration:) I'm glad I wasn't prepared for the pain or how miserable I'd be in general the first 2 days or I might have chickened out--seriously, I'm such a wuss!
Oh, me too; totally, lol. During my first walk in the hospital, it hurt so bad I asked the nurse to wheel me over to the psych ward as I seriously thought I needed help for doing this to myself, lol.
Today I walked for 3 hours and before surgery I couldn't go half a block without needing my asthma meds. The other day I rode 25.5 km on my bike...no asthma meds needed. So totally worth it.
Hang in there; and get well soon.

For me Day 6 made a turn and by Day 8- Wednesday to Wednesday, I was like I can't believe I had surgery a week ago..
Getting as much fluids and protein in as you can will make a difference....

Thank you for the encouragement! I want to feel better next week for the holiday with my son:) I'm thinking about having a cold festive nutribullet concoction while everyone else eats bbq:)
What do they have you taking for pain? The first couple days were rough for me pain-wise, I just took it very very slowly until I felt better....then I overdid it and had to slow down again typical me. I went home on gabapentin capsules and tylenol.

They were giving me liquid Lortab in the hospital and I could have Morphine for severe pain. I had one dose of Morphine and it made me feel horrible. I haven't had any Lortab since 1:00am day of discharge because I felt so much better without it. I didn't have my pain meds filled because it made me feel so horrible and didn't make a huge difference in the pain. I believe the prescription is for hydrocodone and I'm supposed to cru**** I don't have a lot of pain when I can sit down and get comfortable, just so sore and my right side hurts when I walk. I've never heard of gabapentin will look into it.
