What's on your Menu today (Wednesday) RNYers?
Good afternoon DD2 and the gang. I'm back again, checking in. I've been off on medical leave for the last week after having plastics, and let me tell you, plastic surgery ain't no joke. Today is day 8 and i'm starting to feel semi normal now. Yesterday, I ended up in the ER. I saw my surgeon on Monday for my 6 day appointment and he told me I could stop wearing the thigh high compression socks that I had been wearing. So, I woke up yesterday morning and my legs were swollen to double their normal size. I mentioned it on the phone to the nurse and she insisted I go to the ER, since it was so sudden and extreme. I was 99.9% sure it was just swelling from the surgery, but better safe than sorry, so i went in. Did you guys know that having an ultrasound wand pressed into your leg about half an inch from the plastic surgery incision is actually very painful? LOL. Anyway, I am fine, it was just swelling from the surgery.
I woke up this morning feeling great. My only real issue and pain at this point are the drain sites, which are in my pubic area. Uggh, they sting and hurt pretty bad. I also have to admit that I look freaking amazing, despite the swelling and raw red scars. I'm super happy with how it all turned out and I'm going to post a before and after pic on Friday. I'm going to try to find a pic in an outfit that i can try on to show the difference.
I also got some bad news today and would welcome any comments or advice. My husband started the process for RNY in January or February of this year. He called and verified what the coverage was and made sure he met the criteria. He went through with all of the tests and completed everything, and then when they went to submit for approval he was denied. Our policy is BMI 40 with no comorbidities, or 35 with 2 comorbidities, and also 5 years recorded with a doctor of a weight to verify obesity. So the denial letter just said he didn't meet criteria because his BMI isn't 40 or higher. Since I am home and he is working, I called the insurance company for him today to check into it. They told me that Bariatric Surgery is no longer covered under the policy as of 2017 for any reason. I looked at our insurance website, and sure enough, it said it's not covered now. But earlier in the year, when he spoke with them and looked at the website, it showed as covered. I believe he has an email directly from the insurance company in 2017 that said what the qualifications for surgery for his employer were, because they are a little different than the norm and he wanted to verify. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on what we can do to push this issue?
Accountability: This surgery has really helped to reset my carb cycle. Not being able to really eat for the first few days helped to kick that carb monkey off of my back. Not only has the carb monkey disappeared, but the volume of food that I can eat is reduced. I know I'm just a week out of surgery, and this won't physically last for long, but I'm using it as a chance to get back on track totally.
DD2QOTD: I have a few favorites, but since weight loss surgery I can use them all comfortably (even the ones that used to be too small to fit all of the way around me).
almost 23 months since surgery, and I'm not getting on that damn scale for at least another week since I'm so swollen from surgery that I'm up over 10 pounds. Though, my surgeon told me he cut off 5.8 pounds of fat and skin.
Food:
B: 1oz turkey jerky and coffee with SF coffeemate
L: 1/2 can albacore with Kraft avocado mayo and a premier protein drink
D: ground turkey with spaghetti sauce (kinda like italian chili, no beans)
S: premier protein
totals 891 protein 118 carbs 30 fat 33
Have a great day guys.
Also, I am weaning myself off of the percocet completely. I did take one this morning at 6am, but have switched to tylenol for the rest of the day. If I feel rough before bed, I'll take one 5/325 percocet to help me sleep, but that's all I'm doing.
Have a great day everyone!
What a bummer about your hubby's insurance. Do you think you might be able to find the email-I don't know if it would help but it couldn't hurt to send it back to them and ask questions.
I am glad to hear that you are feeling better. You will feel so free when you get the drains out-at least I did, but I wasn't allowed to shower until they were out so that was part of it. When I got the drains out I didn't realize how long they were.
Have you started sleeping in your bed yet?
Hello everyone,
Crazy week at work so far!
Accountability: I have been 100% on plan with the exception of eating less. Today is the first time on 4 days that I don't have such a small pouch/sleeve day. I haven't eaten 100% of what I planned but certainly more than the previous 3 days.
QOTD: I don't really have a favorite towel, just as long as it does a good job drying me off.
B:2eggs, turkey breakfast sausage, 1/2 slice of cheese
L: 2 1/2 oz turkey breast
S: 1oz turkey breast
D: 3oz flat iron steak, 1/4 serving ricotta bake, 2 fork fuls broccoli rabe
S: ostrim meat stick

Enjoy the rest of your night everybody!

Hello all - late, quick post for me today. Scale is frustrating me again. It hasn't moved down from 229.8 since 6-23. In fact it has went up and down but has never been below the 229.8. My calories have not changed hardly at all the whole time - so I just keep plugging along and telling myself that eventually it has to move down.
QOTD: No special towel for me
Accountability: I ate totally as planned yesterday
