First steps!
hello! My husband had RNY last month and is doing GREAT! His progress and happiness at doing this for himself has motivated me to begin my own journey. I scheduled my initial consultation with the surgeon for August 31, but the nurse said I could start my 6 month evaluations before then with my GP, start making appointments for psych evals, etc.
I have PCOS and Type 2 diabetes. I'm hoping this surgery will improve these conditions and allow us to start a family. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with pregnancy post-WLS? It seems most I've seen post didn't have it until after they were done having kids.
Thanks!
My Dr said to wait two years post op to get pregnant. We are not having more but I thought that was interesting. The concern is malabsorption affecting the growth of the fetus. My cousin had RNY five years ago and just had her first child. She had problems still with malabsorption and slow growth. He was in the NICU for months. I've also heard of many successful pregnancies post op so my guess is she was the exception, not the rule. Either way the 2 years thing makes sense.

Yeah it definitely makes sense not to try to make a baby while you're still primarily losing, which is fine for me. We're not quite ready yet. It was the malabsorption I was more curious about.
I'm 3 weeks post-op and my discharge papers said not to get pregnant before 18 months out.
I think there is a post-op pregnancy forum on this website, you should check it out.

18 mo-2 years seems to be the general consensus which is perfectly fine for us :) get healthy first, THEN run after kids. We were just married in October so we're perfectly ok without kids for a bit.
I did find the pregnancy forum, it's great! I'm just learning about all the little sub groups on here :)
