Unwittingly found out dumping is no joke!

I've been on an iced coffee with sugar free vanilla kick lately. I got one from Starbuck's drive through on Friday, but didn't drink any in the car on the way home, because I wanted to add some fairlife milk. I got home, doctored it with fairlife and drank about a quarter of it before I got distracted. Thank goodness I only drank part of it because I got SO sick-nausea, cramping, cold sweats, dizziness, palpitations. I felt absolutely terrible for about 30 minutes. My only guess is they accidentally put real syrup instead of the sugar free because I had not had anything else to eat or drink out of the ordinary and the sugar free syrups never give me any GI issues. Guess I'll be making my own iced coffee from now on, because I cannot risk that again!

I get it too. Not always but it's happened more than a few times. I do think sugar in liquid is worse than say sugar in a cookie.

TMy nutritionist really hammered home the "less than 10grams of sugar per serving" point.

I think dumping is a good thing. I mean not in your case when it hits you by surprise. But for those that have sugar issues it can teach the brain to "shy away" from those temptations.

I agree. I definitely still have cravings for junk food and sweets, but I haven't really been tempted to try them yet. This experience will definitely keep me away. I can use all the help I can get.

I'm sorry you had that horrible experience. I had my surgery at the end of April and live in fear of dumping. My dietician says no more than 5 grams of sugar per serving. Nance

That's a good guideline to stick to.

Thank goodness you didn't drink it in the car; wow! I'd tell the servers at Starbucks that if they accidentally give you sugar, you'll be very sick.

If I had a nickel for every time someone mistakenly got a boatload of sugar from Starbucks, I'd be a rich man. It happens from them ALL THE TIME.
