Pain!
So I'm on day 5 post-op. I have terrible pain in my left side. I also had my first tiny BM today. I sneezed and thought I was going to go through the roof. It's a terrible pulling stabbing pain. Sometimes I can't even get up from sitting without help. I have a call in to the surgeon to see what they say. I can't cough without feeling stabbed or laugh or even cry. Maybe it's just still so soon. I don't know but right now I'm feeling miserable. I took some benefiber yesterday because I thought maybe the lack of bm had something to do with it. Gonna try maybe some MOM today. I know the pain meds can constipate you and I've been taking them fairly regularly more the last 2 days. Can this pain possibly be normal? Sorry for the rambling.
Best to hear from the surgeon's office. There is a lot of healing going on right now that is very sensitive. Your sneeze could have pulled on something causing the pain, but let the drs office give you any advice. I did too much right after my surgery causing some really sharp pain so I had to back off and rest more. Also ask them what they suggest for constipation. When I didn't go for 4 days or so, MOM was my bff! Good luck and enjoy your weight loss!

Everyone react differently and has different tolerances to pain. if you are concerned please call your doctor/surgeon. That's what they are there for. I use a packet of Miralax daily to keep things "regular".
I hope you feel better soon!

I was in major pain for over 2 weeks, sorry to say, and it was completely unexpected because most people post that they are fine after surgery, no pain, just discomfort. I was in agony. I had a bad cough too, and it was not fun. The hardest for me was going from sitting to standing, or standing to sitting positions. The toilet was torture, lol. When I called my surgeon to tell him, he said it was normal, and the pain on my left side was from his "signature double knot".
I'd call your surgeon, just to make sure everything is OK, as we're all different.
Every day for me got a bit better, and one day the pain was gone, but shortly after I dropped a med and without thinking bend over to pick it up and it came back.
Then it went away again and was fine until I started eating soft foods and the pain came back, about 4-6 hours after eating. My surgeon made me start all over again with full liquids, and said that I was just a slow healer and things were still too raw inside for foods. I begged to just go back to purees, but he said no, full liquids for 2 weeks, then purees for 2 weeks. It made me sad, but on the other hand, the super low calories made me lose faster than I would have otherwise.
Now I"m at 5 months out (or will be, on Wednesday) and the pain and aggravation are all just memories. I feel great and am down almost 90 Lbs.
Good luck, and don't forget to call your surgeon.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am still waiting to hear back from the surgeon. The sitting to standing and back are definitely the worst. Getting out of bed and the the toilet are painful too. I'm trying to rest as much as I can along with walking and trying to maintain normal. Thank goodness it's summer and my 15 year old has been a lot of help and encouragement for me. I keep telling myself the pain will all be worth it in the end!
I am 13 days Post op and still fighting the left side pain. I have a CAT scan tomorrow because my doctor believes it should have subsided by now. Mine feels like a severely torn muscle. I will admit that it is better today than it has been. Pain meds are of no use but icing the pain has brought the most relief. It is not GONE...but it's not as bad when I'm icing it as it can get when I'm not icing it.
I think my office thinks I'm drug-seeking. I am not. Ice has been helpful and what they prescribed was of no use....I just want to know what's causing the pain. I'm concerned that it's a hernia.
I actually have a toilet riser which helps with one of your up/down concerns. If you can get one, it's useful right now. As of yesterday I was finally willing to NOT use the riser anymore.
I hope things improve for you soon. Seriously though....try icing it! :)
Absolutely will try that. Two days, three calls... and no call back from the surgeon. I know he is out of town but he's not the only one in the practice. I personally would much rather help it without drugs. I was hoping to begin working remotely from home starting Friday. That may not be a possibility if this doesn't subside. Or maybe I'm just being a big baby.
I talked with a friend who had the sleeve done and she said she remembers having pain that sounds like mine, just not as severe. Sooo maybe my pain tolerance is just low right now. I'm also paranoid that it's something wrong. Like a hernia or a leak or whatever other disaster my mind can conjure up.
For now, I'm going to relax, keep taking the meds on time, and try icing it.
Thanks for the tip! Hope you get some answers!
