New here, hi all!
Hi all! A long time lurker here. I decided to finally register as my WLS is getting closer to actually happening (should be getting my surgery date any day now). My surgery will probably be happening sometime in October or November.
I've been struggling with my weight almost all my life. I must've been around 12 when I had my first visit with a dietician. Since then I've tried that multiple times, but also most of the fad diets (Atkins being my favorite). At some point losing and gaining the same 100 lbs just gets exhausting - especially when you're always gaining some on top of what you just lost. Frankly it seems like I need some help with maintaining that weight loss. I don't think I ever would've considered WLS had they not discovered that I have something called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease earlier this year. The doctors say that a dramatic weight loss would stop its progression.
Being 6?0? and 300 lbs puts me at BMI 40.7, which is - let's be honest - too much for a 22 year old guy. I've been pondering a lot about making this permanent life change so young, but feel the best I can manage without is another few years of yo-yo dieting until co-morbidities start creeping in.
So anyway, just wanted to say hi to all you amazing people! Reading through these forums has been so helpful during my process.
Mathias

Fatty liver disease and morbid obesity go hand in hand. The pre-op diet is designed to lose some of that liver fat as the liver gets "lifted" during surgery. The lighter your liver, the less chance it gets damaged.
I think it's a great move to get it done at your age. 22 year olds should be damaging their livers the old fashioned way; with booze and drugs not obesity!
Im kidding of course but you only get to enjoy your twenties once. Not having to spend it fighting obesity is a definite advantage.
