Freaking out!

No need to freak out - you are starting a new and healthy and amazing life! Wait until you can do so many things with ease - fit in a booth, buckle the airplane seatbelt, climb in the backseat of a small car, kneel on the ground to garden, wrap a normal towel around you after the shower, and more! I don't know what your goals are, but everything is easier when you are not morbidly or super morbidly obese, and you will be extending your life. So if it's tough at first to manage small meals of dense protein, vitamins, not drinking with or after meals...it's WORTH IT! I would have RNY twice tomorrow and a hundred times next week if I needed to, in order to live my best life. You will figure it out. And on a side note, I use vitamin patches from patchMD (I got a coupon code for 40% with monthly auto-ship) and though they are more expensive than pills, I have found that I am much more compliant with vitamins with the ease of the patches.

Some people on this site have said "you're worth it" to other posters - and it rings true to me. Each of us is worth the effort to plan and treat our bodies with kindness.

Good luck!

My centre recommended Celebrate Complete 36 Chewable Vitamins. They make it really easy as everything, including the iron and B12, is included. I have to take 2 a day, so I take one when I wake up, and one before bed. I also need two calcium/vitamin D chews per day, so I take one at lunch, one at supper, so they're spaced away from the multi, which contains iron. It's super easy.

I also have to take a pill to protect my stomach from acid, and take that with my first meal. It's supposed to be taken before meals but it makes me queasy on an empty stomach, so my doctor said to take it with my fist meal.

You'll figure out what works best for you; don't worry. It's all doable, or there wouldn't be so many of us doing this. Good luck!

Thank you for the information on Celebrate. I ordered their sample pack. I am going to talk to my program nurse about them tomorrow

Yep it's complicated at first. I set about a million little alarms on my phone to remind me when to eat, drink, take specific vitamins, etc. Now it is as natural as any other part of the day.

I am thinking this is what I am going to need to do. Plus get one of those multi box pill boxes that a PP recommended.

It's a pain... I have four compartment pill holders, one for each day of the week. Once a week I get everything I need out and fill up the little pill boxes which slide into a weekly holder. Here is how I allocate my meds

AM: (usually 7:30-8 when I eat breakfast) gallbladder pill, Acid Pump reducer, 500mg Calcium w/D3, Adderal (my ADD med)

Noon: (actually take these around 10:30-11ish) Chewable multivitamin (with no calcium), quick dissolve Iron, biotin, and on Sunday's and Wednesdays sublingual B12.

Afternoon: (usually 1:30-2) 500mg Calcium w/D3, Adderal

PM: (with a bedtime protein snack) 500mg Calcium w/D3, 3mg Melatonin, Zoloft (antidepressant), and a prophylactic Migraine pill.

I used to take my blood pressure pill in the morning too, but as of this week, I no longer need it!

If you don't mind, what migraine med do you take? Did you find that the patterns/triggers changed after surgery? Mine have and I'm wondering what's causing it and how to handle it.

Amitriptyline Hydrochloride 25mg

I've taken other meds and had terrible side effects (like zomby brain). This one kinda helps me sleep better (my sleep tracker shows longer deep sleep when I remember it vs. skipping it). Because I see the improvement in sleep I'm pretty motivated to remember to take it, or get up and take it if I've forgotten.

I don't know about the migraine patterns changing but I do know I have only taken my "during" migraine pill once since my surgery. It could be that due to the requirement to take post surgical meds and vitamins, I'm just more on top of getting this medication in consistently now.

I'll chime in, because I felt the same way. It wasn't a freak out, but I was a bit concerned as to how I would remember it all and keep it straight. My wife bought me a daily pill dispenser thing and it works great. I take the day's pills with me in my lunch bag. Here's my run-down (understanding that we will all be different)

For the first month I only took the prevacid (stomach acid prevention pill) at first, it's a 6 month daily prescription. No vitamins until one month post-op, then:

Prevacid as soon as I get up, so a half hour (min) later I can have breakfast.

Calcium pill with my breakfast

Multi-vite and D with lunch

D and B50 complex with supper

Calcium at bedtime

2X a week, I take a sublingual b12 with the lunch vitamins, and 2x a week, a chewable Vit C.

Starting out for the first 3 months, they had me on chewable multis and calcium, which I hated but I did it anyway. Now I'm on to a regular multi and calcium and it's much better in my books.

All of that is on the recommendation of the clinic, and they're all different (and so are we and our bloodwork etc.) but the routine is actually fairly easy to implement. Once in a blue moon I'd forget one (I forgot my calcium at bedtime last night, for example) but my bloodwork is showing up perfect. They weren't concerned in the least about an oopsy like that. Brain farts happen.

I re-load on Sunday night before bed, and I'm good for the week. Hope that helps. Good luck to you, you're about to go on quite a ride.

Remember, no matter where you go.......there you are.
