Freaking out ... high Platelet levels!
I'm exactly 2 weeks from getting my surgery and I received my final blood work back today and it shows my blood PLatelets at 512. I'm really starting to worry. Has anyone had this and if so what did they do? I'm hoping this doesn't postpone anything as I've been starving for over a week on opti-fast abs it is and don't want to be doing this for nothing! ?
Sorry the the panic mode has set In about everything now!
What has your surgeons office said? I would call them, if you haven't already. I'm no doctor, but I doubt that will stall your surgery date. If you need to change something, they will tell you. They've seen your levels from the blood work.

A normal blood platelet count is 150,000 to 400,000 platelets per microliter, says the National Institutes of Health.
I know you're freaking out, but if it were 10 platelets over or under, it would be bold print. I seriously don't think it's anything to worry about. I still urge you to call them. It doesn't matter - if you have a question, they're there to support you and answer your questions.
I don't mean to be a know - it - all, but I had RNY 6/2011 and am looking at revision surgery next Tuesday. I've probably had my blood drawn 100 times, as much as I've been in the hospital! (Knee, then brain, then shoulder surgery plus 5-6 bouts with pneumonia.)
Stay focused, call them to ease your mind, and stop freaking! Good luck.

I'll tell you upfront I'm scared, and this is my 2nd time around! And it's okay to be scared. That day will come before you know it. Be past before you know it. You'll be on the other side & wonder why you were scared. You can friend me & message me anytime. I'm actually a professional counselor in my career if 16 years - but I certainly need help too!

My normal platelet count is close to 600. It's fine, it means I have plenty to donate. I'm one of he few patients who has been give permission to return to platelet donation just two months out of my surgery.
Even if this is a change for you, there's s good chance it's a positive result of your newer healthier lifestyle.
Talk to your doctor, talk to experts but you're probably fine!
Also, in the hospital the day after my surgery, the hospitalist stopped in to see me because my bloodwork came back after my surgeon made his rounds. He asked if I had a normally high platelet level. I told him yes, that i was a double platelet donor at the American Red Cross and he smiled and said "lucky you!"
