Home from Surgery

I made it home today from the hospital where I had RNY on Tuesday. Right now I'm 54 hours Post op. Pain was minimal to moderate and they did a great job of managing it. Now that I'm Home, I'm having to do the pain management myself and i have fewer options at my disposal, the the pain is more in the 4 range as opposed to the 2.5 to 3 range my last day in the hospital, but I know this well subside. I still think most of the pain is gas related... hopefully that will fully dissipated in a day or two more. Also I am doing my best to eat some food with protein and have managed to get down about 60g today. Also I have met my hydration goal of 64 oz.

The only thing that has surprised me was that I gained 10 lbs in the hospital. I was expecting it, but the ten lbs surprised me. Oh well, I know this is going to take time and there will be up hills and down hills.

Take care all.

Glad you're home! I hope your pain level will diminish very soon. Did you get pain medicine to see you through the first few days? Well done on your intake! Feel better!

Yes the weight gain in the hospital is sort of a bummer but it's definitely just fluid.

By by the time I made it to my first post-op follow up maybe 8 days after surgery I was down 12 lbs from surgery day and nearly 20 lbs from release day.

Be sure to get a nice walk in today. Good luck!

Congrats! I gained 11 pounds in the hospital, and it took a fulllweek to get back down to my starting weight. All water.

Keep walking and drinking. 64 ounces is great, but getting rid of excess water, healing, and burning fat would be helped if you can drink more.

Work hard!

It always feels so good to get back home! You are right the pain will get better-the more you can walk and get the gas moving the better. Rest, sip and walk!

good job on getting your hydration in, thats hard to do.

I'm one week post-op and called my centre today as I was concerned about not getting enough water in due to how long it takes me to 'eat' my meals and not drinking 30 mins before or after, I find little time to drink. My centre told me today to forgo some of my food as water is more important at this point.

Yeah, I think hydration is most important. What do they say, people can go weeks with out food, but only a few days with ou****er.
