Good morning CAMAW and AMAW friends!

RNY 10 weeks ago/176/Weight-loss Diet/AMAW

Despite being on the AMAW plan, this morning was once again a screw up. My nephew made me breakfast and was so excited to have it waiting for me that I went ahead and ate it. It wasn't all due to his undying love for me, he was caught playing with my food scale and his mom suggested that if he wanted to play with it he could make my breakfast...

B- ANOTHER OOOPS! low-fat cottage cheese with SF jello

MS- Tuna packet

L- Salmon sashimi

AS- probably will skip but if not, tuna packet

D- Roast salmon

ES- shrimp wrapped in bacon (going to make enough for tomorrow's breakfast!)

Total Calories: 764 Protein: 99 Carbs: 8 Sugar: 0 Fat: 34

I picked up a whole salmon filet at Aldi and I'm roasting it tonight for dinner. Any left overs (cooking for my sister's family and my parents) will go towards tomorrow's lunch :) Venison is thawing for Wednesday's meal of enchiladas (I'll only eat the filling).

Perhaps the CAMAW is a better fit for you, then.

Hi Kat,

I get it, but CAMAW is so close to my normal menu that it doesn't feel like a change. The AMAW is my goal. I thought about your question yesterday and almost just dropped out rather than exposing my fail, but I really want to keep trying to get this. But if it is bothering you to see me keep posting these "fails" while striving for the AMAW I respect that. I can't promise tomorrow will be perfect either.

It doesn't "bother" me -- I am merely suggesting you set yourself up to succeed rather than accepting "failure" all the time.

I guess I don't feel that failing at breakfast the first two days equals failing at AMAW. And I guess I'd rather fail at two out of ten meals than not try at all.

I feel I had some significant wins yesterday. My sister had two beautiful loaves of bread cooling on the counter when I got home and I was able to resist having a tiny pinch of the still warm crust. There was fresh asparagus at dinner, and I love asparagus, and I resisted. I didn't have any of the low sugar pumpkin pie bites she made with real whipped cream on top! When I went on a walk last night I didn't taste the Dairy Queen cone I picked up for my sister in law. Lots of wins, a couple mistakes.

CAMAW wouldn't feel like I was stretching or challenging myself.

If I don't expose myself to some fails, I'll NEVER be able to change and win at this whole new way of living!

H.O.- You didn't ask my opinion, but when did that ever stop me? Please accept this with the intention it is being given:

CHOICES come with CONSEQUENCES...I have made PLENTY of BOTH, in the last 15 years...

Now, ask me WHY it took me NINE YEARS, to get to goal ????

When I see someone doing things I did, it breaks my heart, and I just have to say something. You are an adult. Take ownership. You ate whatever, because you chose to. Is there anything wrong with cottage cheese and SF Jello? Normally, NO...but you made a commitment-to yourself-to NOT eat it , for 5 days. You are worth the commitment.

Gina,

I understand, and I do believe I'm worth the commitment. Thanks to the awesome help of people like you here on OH, I've radically departed from my diet dictated by my bariatric center, slashing the total calories, cutting out the carbohydrates they prescribe like oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat breads etc... I've made these changes because I believe that the truth is right here in a group of people *****ally have been there and done that. People like you who took much longer to get to goal than that promised 18 months. I have already learned from your mistakes and I'm trying to work to continue to improve my choices, be totally honest about my mistakes, and to fine the best path forward for my own weight loss journey.

That said, I chose this morning to appease a little kid. It was a choice I made as I balance my goals and priorities with life around me. Fritz had already had a rough morning and then was caught playing with the forbidden fruit AKA my kitchen scale, but had managed to turn himself around and was cheerful and sweet with his (overly mixed) bowl of now pink cottage cheese. I made lots of "yummm" sounds and complemented his mixing technique and we discussed which hen probably laid the egg he was eating for breakfast (blue shell so one of two hens). It was a nice little moment with Fritz that helped start MY day well, and I will continue to see his happy little face with I think about my AMAW fail today and it kindof balances out.

Again, not the same if he had offered me some horrible food, but cottage cheese and SF Jello? Not worth hurting his little heart. At least not worth it to me.

Can I suggest planning out your meals the night before so you know 100% you are doing AMAW.

That's a great suggestion! I've actually planned out my meals for the week, as I do every week. Monday was a total forgetful moment. That's on me.

This morning's 'oops' was an active choice. My five year old nephew "made me" breakfast and was so excited to see me come down to this "surprise". It wasn't a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, or pancakes, or something totally off my approved meal list, it was low fat cottage cheese mixed with SF jello, something he had observed me eating several times. I'd told my sister that I was doing AMAW and she forgot, and helped him decide what to make me. I choose to keep that delighted look on his little face over adhering to a commitment I've made to all of you and to myself. It was a choice. It wasn't one I thought would be a significant issue other than to me and my own goals.

My continuing intention is AMAW. I can almost promise that I will make another bad choice (or maybe two) and I will forget and put something in my mouth that isn't meat. If knowing this now, you would rather I simply withdraw, I get it, but I'm also disappointed.

Thanks

There is no need to withdraw and there is nothing wrong with switching to CAMAW and trying next time for AMAW.

The whole idea of AMAW/CAMAW challenge is to fully 100% commit to one or the other. I usually do CAMAW because I like my yogurt and coffee with cream, but I wanted to do AMAW this time.

You said yourself your daily menu is like CAMAW. I think this time you should have done CAMAW and worked your way up to AMAW.

It is not an easy thing for most to do when they are so used to having yogurt, nuts, cottage cheese, etc. If you look at the folks who signed up the majority of them are CAMAW with not many AMAW.
