Post Gastric Bypass surgery, did not even lose 90 lbs. Feel like I am gaining weight.

Just frustrated, sad and feel like I have ruined everything!

I know the "pocket" can stretch, can it shrink again?

Thank you,

Willow

Welcome, I hear your frustration. The pouch is meant to get somewhat bigger over time, but will never return to the original size.

There are many people who still lose even when further out, it is harder than the first year, but it doesn't mean you can't do it.

Get back to basics Dense protein, a little veggie, cut out the carbs and no drinking with meals or 1/2 hour after... at least 64oz fluids and at least a 1/2 hour of exercise or movement a day.

There is a daily RNY menu thread here, you should join us. We have great discussions and it helps to plan the day. Are we all doing it perfectly? No, but staying focused together helps.

Good Luck!

Willow,

I'm a newb, but I do know a lot about frustration, failure, and starting over. For what it's worth, the therapist at my bariatric center told me that one of the basic "gifts" of an RNY is that while regain or minimal loss is a very serious problem, it will still be easier to lose the weight post surgery than it would be had you not had it at all. Clearly aging impacts the ease of losing weight, but you still have a great tool available to help you get the weight off.

I too encourage you to start tracking your diet through an app like MyFitnessPal and then post your planned menu here on the Daily Menu tread on this RNY Forum. Track everything, post everything, even your mistakes. You WILL be called out for bad choices, and likely reminded of them if/when you make frustrated posts about regain or not losing quickly as you would like (spoken from experience) but only because the folks on here really WANT you to succeed!

Trust me when I tell you that there are others out there in your same situation, you are not alone, and the people posting on the menu thread cover a wide range of the spectrum from pre-surgery to veterans.

Good luck on your journey

Hi Willow,

Welcome!

There are plenty of people that stumble, don't get to goal, don't lose the weight, or gain it back even after getting to goal.

Unfortunately the thing they don't tell us about is how hard the brain works against us after surgery!

Join us on the Daily Menu Post. Get ideas from people's menus that are in the 'losing' stage to see what they are eating. Get your Brain into the game!

You CAN lose it if you put your mind to it!

Good luck, and get to know folks around here, it'll help!
