removal of lap band revison to bypass and hiatil hernia repair
It has been a long time since I have been on this website..I had a lap band put in in 2009. I lost qquit a bit of weight but has caused other problems..I now have a larege hiatil hernia that needs to be repaired and lap band to come out..then in 6 weeks to a revision of a bypass. the dr. told me taht the sleeve was not an option as I have severe GERD as well...CAn anyone give me some details on the hiatil hernia repair surgery went and having bypass as a revision..thanks alot
You should ask about the hernia in terms of it possibly causing your reflux.
I was a hopeful sleeve candidate up until I found out I had no hernia causing the reflux I had been dealing with for years.
The repair itself isn't a big deal. A few carefully placed stitches in the diaphragm.
I revised from a band to bypass. Absolutely love it! The rny cured my band caused reflux. I had no hernia. My recovery was faster and better than the band. Maybe because I knew what to expect.
Mine was done in one procedure.

thanks so much for responding..I am really scared..I dob't know why because I had the lap band for 7 years. I am looking forward to having my hernia fixed and lap band taken out...I do have to wait 6 weeks to have the bypass done..I have only about 50 pounds to lose, but I am afraid that if I have the bypass, I will get too skinny and look sick...Do you know what I mean? I still want to have a shape. Also,,,How was your recovery as far as all the liquid diet for so long and also dumping syndrome..If you have a moment can you explain to me of your experience with the lap band revision to bypass..Thanks so much..N
I was not afraid of getting too skinny. I was afraid I wouldn't get to goal. I've had to fight for every pound. I maintained on the band at around 170-180. So set my goal for 170. You can see I'm lower than that. I'm now shooting for 145 which is a normal BMI. I am not worried about going too low because it is so hard to lose. Unless you have a super fast metabolism it isn't something to worry about a fraction of a percentage of people have the "lose too much" problem. Most have the "want to lose more" problem.
i eat healthy nutrient dense foods like fruits and vegetables and seeds and protein. I feel great.
I only had the 2 week liquid pre op.
By day 3 post op I was on full liquids
2 weeks post op I was on purees/soft.
Didnt really start feeling 100% until solids (where I was getting enough calories)
because I am a revision and the damage to my esophagus from my band I have a bigger pouch than most. 55cc vs 35cc. But my doc said I'd do great with it and he was right.
I have experienced dumping. For me it is caused by drinking my protein shake too fast (1 big gulp did it). I did it 2 days in a row before I figured it out and was like..,oh this is dumping! Not menopause
it is easy to avoid if you know what triggers it, I don't gulp my shakes now. It has also kept me away from sugar because I don't need to test it. At most I'll have a spoonful of my husband's dessert.

I honestly have not been tested for all of the above, but have been pondering requesting it. My surgeon remarked that my band had stretched my esophagus. Hence the larger pouch.
i had severe reflux with the band.
