The last few days musings
Last weekend I decided to take down an old rotted out shed in the backyard. I ate breakfast (an egg, a piece of cheese, and a few whole wheat crackers) and went outside with my tools. It wasn't until suppertime that I realized I'd done what I had done so many times before when doing construction/yard work jobs. My whole life I've had a habit of starting a job and working away at it until it's done, be it 10 hours, 12, 20, whatever.
My wife, after returning home from a day's errands, made supper and came out to see what I was up to all day. There I was, sitting on top of what was left of the shed, sledge hammer and pry bar in hand. She asked what I'd eaten that day, because there was only my breakfast bowl in the sink.
I was so engrossed in the work, I'd forgotten to take anything in at all. With this surgery, I just don't feel hunger. I'd had some water throughout the day, but there were no triggers for eating and I just plain forgot. I know that's a big deal and a huge no-no, so I had my supper (tuna on a 1/2 cup of finely chopped salad) and later a suitable snack, along with another 8 cups of water leading up to bedtime. I missed the morning snack, lunch, evening snack, and half my vitamins from the day. OOOOps!!!
It sure stuck in my mind the rest of the weekend, to use the timers I've set on my phone to remind me to eat!
That sure can't be a habit. Jeez!

Remember, no matter where you go.......there you are.
I totally agree you HAVE to take care of yourself be it setting reminders or your phone or whatever it takes.
However, I will say (as I sit here eating my yogurt and trying to pretend it is a cinnamon roll and not just cinnamon roll flavored) that I can't imagine but really really want the day when I can forget food. Right now because I am dieting for insurance it is literally always just a thought away. I'll start on a task and tell myself if I fini**** I'll let myself have lunch/snack/etc. I literally check this website every 5 minutes at work just so I'm not going to the vending machine. ARGH

I hear ya man. There's a vending machine here at work too, and I've avoided it like the plague even prior to surgery. Soda's been off the menu for 9 years now.
One thing I found was Oikos Triple Zero flavoured greek yogurts. Salted Caramel, and I think there was a coffee flavoured one too that I liked. The 6-packs are strawberry. So far (and I don't know where you're located...I'm in Canada on a border city) I've only found them in the U.S. at Meijer. Amazing stuff, and it helps slam protein, ease some cravings for the "old stuff".
Other than this weekend, the timing of things has been fairly easy to adjust to. It's a process, and I'm getting there.
Keep on keepin' on man, you've got this.

JACOB-Please promise me you won't do what CarlRay did...
With the weirder-than even-usual Tx weather we have been having, Mrs. Jakosaurus might come home, to a shriveled up husband, lying under a shed, in the backyard...
Not. Good.

We Can Do Hard Things
I promise :)
Believe me a huge part of why I am doing this is so I'll be around longer for my girls. No use wasting all of this effort to go out with something else I can prevent. I learned long ago not to trust TX weather when I ended up with heat stroke in November :D It is nice to think about it being possible to forget food for a bit though.
Plus why waste the excuse to rent a bulldozer He He

I've missed eating a few times too; got distracted and just forgot. I have days where I never get hungry, and other days where I feel hungry all day. Thankfully that feeling goes away as soon as I eat something, but I do not like the return of hunger, even though it's mild compared to presurgery.

This life is certainly different. For now hunger wasn't the signal, but you certainly can use other signals as you mentioned. Glad you felt well enough to work that long though.

I'm honestly blown away at my energy level and stamina on the weekend, for the number of calories I typically consume. Saturday afternoon I emptied out and demo'd the shed (most of it). Sunday afternoon I finished the demo job before we had a major downpour (1.5" in an hour) which made a mess of things, then got out the torch and removed the backyard hose bib on the house (and soldered on a new one).
Monday I cleaned up the shed mess, hauled it to the front and loaded it onto a trailer, went and picked up 50 bags of soil and 2 mulch from Walmart and hand bombed them to the backyard, cleaned up the garage, built a shelf for the shed stuff (now stored in the garage), removed a block retaining wall and moved the blocks to the front via wheelbarrow and put them in the car of someone who bought them from me, and took the kids to the park for a play.
Crazy day, and I only had a stiff back in the evening. Slept pretty good though. LOL

Ooh, you know how you could really impress/surprise her?! Wash your own dishes so there were NO dishes in the sink when she got home. She'd probably think you weren't eating at all.
